October 15, 2011 Ohio District Board Meeting

  • Meeting called to order by Eldon Gerken with prayer.
  • Minutes of the July 16, 2011 meeting approved.
  • Treasurer Report; Balance July 16, 2011 of $4,297.52.
    • Balance was July 16, 2011 of $4,020.69.
    • $ 800 in Equiiping to share fund included in balance.
    • $ 332.00 in Latvia Fund.
  • Region 4 Governor Jerry Brown ( report given by Eldon Gerken).
    • TLH aired on 1,377 stations, an increase of 21 in last 12 months.
    • Dailey devotions subscribers: 42,432.
    • TLH sermon by email: 9,757 and by Pod cast; 1,563.
    • Para Elcomin (Spanish) website visits: 3,553.
    • 'Bible on Trial' special shown 388 times.
    • ROC conference registered: Total 1,400 (Phoenix, Alevxandria, Bronson, and Chicago).
    • Men's Network 2 new bible studies.
      • 'Fatherhood'.
      • 'Never Rode Alone'.
    • Mission U: Trained 23,500 (including ETS). 75 events booked so far this year.
    • Five-14: Trained 2,425.
  • Ohio District Presidents Report.
    • The Ohio District LCMS Pastoral Conference Wheeling, WV.
      • Attendance was 210.
      • Visitors to LLL booth was 18-20, mostly younger.
      • Eldon gave 20 minute LLL presentation to convention.
    • Possibly hold Mission U at St. Paul Napoleon, approx. $550 for seminar material and speaker.
    • Report from District Presidents meeting.
      • Ambassador program objectives and goals not yet final.
    • Future ROC: possible for Ohio to have site for 2014.
  • Other items.
    • Plans for News Letter and update Ohio District web site, Bob Witte to do follow up.
    • Carlon Badenhop - Northwest Zone President.
      • Ongoing task to contact Pastors and Congregations for need of LLL Ambassadors.
      • Fair Boothes at Henry and Fulton counties.
        • Volunteers to man boothes was low.
        • 185 pamphlets distributed.
      • NW Ohio Zone meeting to be November 7,2011 - zone and Ohio District oficers and allzone ambassadors welcome.
    • Wayne Showalter - TriCounty Zone Ambassador Coordinator.
      • Two new ambassador vacancies.
      • Attended ROC Lancaster, Pa.
        • Speaker Pastor Seltz, Lutheran Hour Speaker.
        • Pastor Nunes, LCMS World Mission was session speaker.
        • Professor Rast Fort Wayne Seminary was session speaker.
        • 170 in attendance, registration and meals was $69 per person.
        • Many people using texting to communicate and ask questions.
    • Ideas for 2012 Ohio District Convention.
      • Service type event.
        • Assemble care packages for Haiti mission trip or Orphan Grain Train.
        • Rural ministry service event maybe jointly with Ohio LWML.
      • Don Wharton entertainment.
      • Hand out 'The Lutheran Laymen' paper to attendees.
      • Miss America as speaker.
      • Presentations.
        • Orphan Grain Train.
        • LHM Float.
        • Mission U - Dr. Rutt.
      • St. John Stryker as location for convention.
    • Next Ohio District board meeting- date and location to be determined.
