BRINGING HOPE TO THE CHILDREN OF LIBERIA
My heart is burdened for the poverty stricken children of Liberia who desire to obtain some form of education but have no means. Before the war, the only means such children had of obtaining grade level education was through a government subsidized public school system. Most of these children’s parents were killed in the war, or have parents who are so poor that they have to choose between sending their children to school or putting food on the table.
Due to the seven year war, the government lacks the funds needed to run the schools. They are unable to pay teachers, provide books and supplies, or repair and rebuild the buildings that were destroyed or damaged during the war. Teachers may go to the school for a month and then not show up again until they receive a paycheck. One paycheck may take anywhere between two to three months to come; therefore, public schools are not operating on a regular basis, so the children are left without an education.
Presently, the only schools that are operating on a regular basis are Christian and private schools. These are tuition paid schools which exclude poor children who can not afford to pay. Tuition cost may range anywhere between $100.00 to $150.00 per school year.
My heart’s burden is to see some of these children in school, instead of staying at home or roaming the streets for lack of tuition. I have received requests from twenty five children seeking help to get into school. I am appealing to my brothers and sisters in the Lord to help these children make their dreams come to pass. With prayer and financial help, we can get these children in school this year.
Through the generosity of God’s people we are just about done paying the first semester tuition for twenty five students. We are believing the Lord for the 2nd semester tuition to come in to complete the children’s tuition for the entire 2002-2003 school year. Tuition is being paid directly to the schools. Whatever the Lord lays on your heart will be a blessing to the children.
I have partnered with Kathryn Sears in forming “Word and Deed Ministries”. This is a ministry with a primary focus of extending God’s love to the poor and needy through the Word and the distribution of humanitarian aids. May Our Lord bless you for your love and generosity to the children of Liberia. If you are contributing by check, please make your check payable to “Word and Deed Ministries”. Thanks again.
