How to make mp3 ringtones for your

SAMSUNG SCH-a950!!!

An easy to follow, step-by-step guide.

Please note:  You must have a transflash card for your phone or you cannot get the ringtones onto your phone.  I am sorry if this ruins it for you, but it is not my rule.

This probably works for other phones, but I have not tried since I have an a950 myself.

The information on this page is a compilation of knowledge from others and myself.

STEP 1:

You start out by finding a song on your computer that you would like to make into a ringtone.

After you find a song, you open it in a sound editing program and make a clip between 30 and 45 seconds long.  After you are done editing, save the clip as a *.wav file.

I use Cool Edit Pro or Nero Wave Editor to do this step.  If you do not know how to do this then find someone to teach you.  I am here to teach you to make ringtones, not to teach you how edit songs.

STEP 2:

Now that you have your *.wav sound clip saved, you have to convert it into *.mmf format.

Download Wave Sound Decorator and install it.

When you open the program it should look like this.

Click on FILE and then OPEN.  Then open the *.wav file you just saved.

From the pull-down menu below FILE and EDIT, make sure that "MA-5" is selected.

Click on EDIT and then on SAMPLE TYPE...

When the SAMPLE TYPE menu appears, make sure both boxes shown have checkmarks in them.  Then, from the pull-down menu select "24000".  If the second checkbox is shaded out, do not worry, that just means that your sound clip is already mono.

Click OK when you are done.

Click on FILE and SAVE, then save it somewhere.

You are finally done with this step.  If you would like to, you can repeat it as many times as you want for different sound clips.

STEP 3:

Now, open the folder where the *.mmf file(s) is(are) saved.

When you have found it, rename the file and change the *.mmf extension to a *.mid extension.

Change to this.

STEP 4:

Now all you have to do is move the *.mid file you just created to the "MY SOUNDS" folder on your formatted transflash drive.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!! If everything went as planned you now have a quality FREE ringtone.

Pretty cool huh?

Here are a few extra notes for you to read FYI.

1.) When you insert the transflash card back into the phone you then have to move the sound to the phone if you want to use it as a ringtone.  The reason for this is because if you set it as a ringtone from your card and then remove the card again, it will not be set as that persons' ringtone anymore.  Moving it to the phone solves this problem.

2.) In step 2, you do not have to use the settings that I told you.  I.E... MA-5, 24000, and resample to mono.  The purpose of these settings is to make the best sounding, SMALLEST SIZED, ringtone.  You could keep it stereo, but there is no reason to have a stereo ringtone because when it rings..... who cares.

3.) Some versions of windows do not show the file extensions.  I really do not know how to change this, but if you are at all computer savvy, I am sure that you can figure it out from the folder options menu.

4.) I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANYTHING THAT GOES WRONG WHILE YOU ARE ATTEMPTING TO FOLLOW THESE STEPS.  NOTHING HAS EVERY WENT WRONG FOR ME, BUT I DO NOT WANT TO RECEIVE E-MAILS FROM ANGRY PEOPLE WHO'S PHONE HAS MESSED UP.  AGAIN, I AM NOT MAKING YOU DO THIS.... IT IS UP TO YOU.  ALSO, I DO NOT CONDONE ANY ILLEGAL ACTIVITIES AS FAR AS ILLEGAL MUSIC DOWNLOADING.  THE FILES THAT YOU USE FOR YOUR RINGTONES SHOULD BE LEGAL BACKUPS OF SONGS THAT YOU OWN.

5.) Try these steps and make sure they work before you go balls-to-the-wall making ringtones.  I say this because the transflash cards do not like to be continuously removed and inserted.  Basically what I am saying is, "Be careful".

If this works for you..... tell your friends.
