MSA Opener goes down for the second time…

South Amherst, Ohio…With the forecast calling for intermittent showers and evening temperatures in the upper 30s, coupled with the large amounts of rain earlier this week on the speedway grounds, Lorain Speedway and the Enerco/Mr. Heater Midwest Supermodified Association called the Saturday April 30, 2005 season opener.

"I really wanted to get this one in, but we had to be realistic with the forecast and many super teams hauling from far away just to battle the elements," said Lorain front man Tom Kurtz. MSA President Lee A. Booze added, "We love coming to Lorain, its been a great season opener for us for the past few years, but I can’t imagine we could have put on a quality show in freezing temps and dodging raindrops."

Plans are already in the works to move the "Supermodified Fan Fest" to August when the series returns to the 3/8 mile oval.

The Enerco/Mr. Heater Midwest Supermodified Association season opener will now go off next Saturday at Sandusky Speedway. Racing begins at 6:30pm.

MSA Opener postponed until Saturday April 30th

South Amherst, Ohio…For the fans of the coolest short track racers on pavement, the 2005 season will have to wait one more week. This Saturday’s opener at Lorain Speedway has been cancelled. Opening day for the Enerco/Mr. Heater Midwest Supermodified Association has been pushed back to next Saturday night, April 30th. All times remain the same with the gates opening at 2pm, qualifying at 5pm, Fan Fest autograph session at 6pm and racing at 7pm.

"This was one of the easier calls to make," noted series president Lee A. Booze. "Tom Kurtz of Lorain and I talked at length, and it would be more beneficial to both of us to not fight potential freezing rain, snow and frigid temperatures. I think the only winner in that scenario would be Enerco/Mr. Heater, our title sponsor, they’d make some new friends!"

Next week’s opener will kick off three straight weeks of racing for the offset roadsters. After the opener at Lorain, the series will head to Sandusky Speedway on May 7 and travel to Johnny Benson’s Berlin (MI) Raceway on May 14.

Supermodified racing hasn't been forgotten at Lorain Speedway as the turnout for the MSA autograph session and match race are indication.  Hundreds of kids flocked to the winged warriors throughout the early evening to gather autographs and post cards of Bob Dawson, Sean Sauer and Randy Burch.  The three drivers wore out their Sharpies for about an hour before Dawson and Sauer took to the track for a demonstration run in front of the enthusiastic crowd.  Burch, after finding water and oil mixed in the engine, elected to sit out the ten lap match race.  Sauer started on the inside and led the distance with Dawson trying high and low but never found the room to pass.

A full line-up of Enerco-Mr. Heater Midwest Supermodified Association racing will be on tap this coming weekend with qualifying, heats, semi-feature and a thirty lap feature event capping off the evening.  Qualifying starts at 5pm with an autograph session and car show "Fan Fest" from 6 to 6:45pm.  Racing starts at 7pm.  For more information contact Lorain at www.lorainspeedway.com.

MSA Announces Public Relations Deal with Cleveland Grand Prix at Annual Fundraiser

Sandusky, Ohio…In the effort to increase the exposure of supermodified racing to a whole new group of racing fans, the Enerco/Mr. Heater Midwest Supermodified Association has struck a deal with the Cleveland Grand Prix for 2005. The four-year-old sanctioning body will be actively promoting the Champ Car Series event at its events this spring and in return will have primary public relations access the Cleveland event in June. At least five supermodifieds will be on display along with the MSA souvenir trailer the entire weekend at the Burke Lakefront Airport venue. Drivers and mechanics will be on hand to answer question and sign autographs for fans for the entire event.

"This is great opportunity to expose our style of open wheel racing to a group of fans who can appreciate a technologically advanced race car," said incoming MSA president Lee Booze. "One of drivers, Randy Burch, really went to bat for the whole organization to secure this opportunity. It’s a win-win situation. I believe we can expose short track fans to the opportunity to see the champ cars close to our home base, and at the same time we can increase the awareness of supermodified racing to a whole new segment of the racing population," Booze added.

The public relations announcement was made at the annual spaghetti dinner put on the SuperChix organization. Despite near winter-like conditions the supermodified ladies group brought in over fifteen hundred dollars to use for various causes throughout the racing season. Over fifty diehard fans braved the less than desirable conditions to attend the event held at Sandusky Speedway.

The Enerco/Mr. Heater Midwest Supermodified Association will kick off its season at Lorain Speedway on April 23. For more information about MSA or the Cleveland Grand Prix see either www.midwestsupers.com or www.grandprixofcleveland.com.
