Constitution of the Ohio State University Students in Free Enterprise
The SIFE Vision Helping people achieve their dreams through free enterprise education. I. Mission The mission of this organization shall be to provide members the opportunity to make a difference and develop leadership, teamwork and communication skills through learning, practicing and teaching the principles of free enterprise. II. Membership All regularly enrolled students of the Ohio State University are eligible for membership. III. Executive Officers The executive officers of SIFE shall be the President, Secretary, Executive Vice President, Vice President of Finance, Vice President of Human Resources, Vice President of Public Relations, Vice President of Information Technology, Vice President of Projects, and Vice President of Competition. The term of office for all executive officers will be one calendar year beginning on the first day of the academic year. The executive officers will be chosen at the end of the academic year through a nomination and voting process. The outgoing executive officers will be responsible for training the incoming executive officers for the next year. A. President The President will serve as the chief executive officer of the organization, and will be the organization liaison to both SIFE USA and the Ohio State University. The responsibilities of the President include scheduling meetings, presiding over meetings, and overseeing all aspects of the SIFE organization, including projects, competition, organization, and public relations. The President also reviews SIFE projects and activities, and is to write and present an annual report to the SIFE Business Advisory Board and advisors. In case of vacancy of the President’s office before normal elections, the Executive Vice President shall succeed as President. B. Executive Vice President The Executive Vice President is in charge of the internal affairs of the organization, coordinating information and resources between committees and projects. The Executive Vice President will fulfill the President’s duties when the President is unable to and succeeds the President in case of vacancy of the President’s office. In case of vacancy of the Executive Vice President’s office, a general election will be held during the next scheduled meeting. C. Vice President of Finance The Vice President of Finance will serve as the chief financial officer of the organization, and is the chair of the Finance committee. The responsibilities of the Vice President of Finance includes maintaining the budget, managing the checking account, record keeping, university fund requisition, fundraising, and auditing. In case of vacancy of the Vice President of Finance’s office, a general election will be held during the next scheduled meeting. D. Vice President of Human Resources The Vice President of Human Resources will also serve as the chair of the Human Resource committee. The responsibilities of the Vice President of Human Resources include recruitment, development and training of new members, and working with project leaders to staff new projects. In case of vacancy of the Vice President of Human Resources’ office, a general election will be held during the next scheduled meeting. E. Vice President of Public Relations The Vice President of Public Relations will also serve as the chair of the Pubic Relations committee. The responsibilities of the Vice President of Public Relations include coordinating marketing campaigns on and off campus, developing marketing campaigns, developing marketing resources, and working with local media. In case of vacancy of the Vice President of Public Relations’ office, a general election will be held during the next scheduled meeting. F. Vice President of Information Technology The Vice President of Information Technology will also serve as the chair of the Information Technology committee. The responsibilities of the Vice President of Information Technology include maintaining the SIFE website, maintaining the organization’s software and hardware, and developing multimedia resources. In case of vacancy of the Vice President of Information Technology’s office, a general election will be held during the next scheduled meeting. G. Vice President of Projects The Vice President of Projects will also serve as the chair of the Projects committee. The responsibilities of the Vice President of Projects include the development and implementation of new projects, the documentation of projects, and scheduling of projects. In case of vacancy of the Vice President of Projects’ office, a general election will be held during the next scheduled meeting. H. Vice President of Competition The Vice President of Competition will also serves as the chair of the Competition committee. The responsibilities of the Vice President of Competition include developing entries and presentations for SIFE competition and individual topic competitions, registering for competition, and scheduling rehearsals and equipment for competition. In case of vacancy of the Vice President of Competition’s office, a general election will be held during the next scheduled meeting. I. Secretary The responsibilities of the Secretary include keeping minutes of SIFE meetings, collecting minutes from committee meetings, and recording service hours of SIFE members. In case of vacancy of the Secretary’s office, a general election will be held during the next scheduled meeting. IV. Committees The Ohio State SIFE team will establish committees. Permanent committees will be the Human Resources committee, Public Relations committee, Competition committee, Information Technology committee, and Social committee. Committees can be created and deleted upon a majority vote of the executive officers. One chair will be appointed for each of the different committees. The chairs of each committee will preside over committee meetings and activities, and is responsible for reporting the status of the committee at meetings. With the exception of the Human Resources Committee, chairs of committees will be appointed by the executive officers through an application and interview process at the beginning of the school year or whenever there is a committee chair vacancy. Committees will hold one meeting every two weeks. A. Human Resources The Human Resources committee recruits new members, develops training materials and programs for new members, and creates workshops for members. B. Public Relations The Public Relations committee is in charge of coordinating public relations and marketing activities. The Public Relations committee networks with other student groups, the SIFE Business Advisory Board, local businesses, and the Ohio State University. C. Projects The Project committee develops, implements, and analyzes the different projects conducted by the organization. The Project committee works with the Competition committee to prepare for the regional and national competition presentations and works with the Human Resources committee to ensure projects are properly staffed. D. Competition The Competition committee is in charge of developing the presentation and strategy for annual competitions and special competitions. In addition, the Competition committee is in charge of scheduling rehearsals, personnel, and equipment for the competition. E. Social The Social committee coordinates social events for the SIFE team to create bonding and fun experiences. A minimum of one activity per quarter is expected. F. Information Technology The Information Technology committee maintains the SIFE website, as well as the various media hardware and software used in projects and presentations. V. Impeachment Any officer may be impeached by a petition of 50% of members, or by a 2/3 vote of the voting members present at a regularly scheduled meeting. Definite charges must be raised for a vote or petition. A notice of one regularly scheduled meeting must be given to the officer and active voting members. A 3/4 majority of the active voting members present and voting shall be necessary to remove the officer. VI. Faculty Advisor(s) The faculty advisor(s) will be the Sam Walton Fellow(s). VII. Finance A. Use of Funds The Treasurer oversees the spending of team funds. Expenses over $50 must be approved by a majority of the members of the team or by a majority of the executive officers. B. Financial Reports A minimum of one financial report per academic year is expected to be turned in by the Treasurer. An end-of-year financial report must be submitted by the Treasurer. The financial will include a list of expenses, revenues, and the status of the SIFE checking account. VIII. Amendments to the Constitution Proposed amendments to this Constitution must be submitted to an executive officer in writing. A 3/4 majority vote of all SIFE members shall be necessary for the acceptance of any amendments. IX. Non-Discrimination Statement Discrimination against any individual based upon protected status, which is defined as age, color, disability, gender identity or expression, national origin, race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, or veteran status, is prohibited. |
