Approval of Participation Hours

I. Definition of Participation Hours

Students in Free Enterprise Participation Hours are categorized into three groups: meetings, projects, and personal. Each of these three groups are recorded separately but all count equally to a members total hours. Participation hours of each of the groups are defined as follows:

Meeting – All general meetings, committee meetings, meetings with advisors, Business Advisory Board members, etc. count as Meeting Hours.

Projects – Actual presentation or participation in a project, developing, creating, working on a project, and project meetings all count as Project Hours.

Personal – Activities that do not fall into Meetings or Projects will be counted in Personal Hours, including putting up flyers, researching project ideas, doing recruitment, etc.

II. Approval of Participation Hours

Meeting – Meeting hours will be recorded based on an attendance signup at general meetings and by reporting to an executive officer for any other meeting.

Projects – Project hours will be recorded by the project leader and turned in to the Secretary. If the hours are not recordable by the project leader, the person will fill out a form and turn it into the Secretary for approval. The hours will be approved if the Secretary and one other executive officer approve the hours.

Personal – Members are to fill out the hours approval form and submit it to the Secretary. The Secretary and at least one other executive officer will review the submission, and if both approve the hours, then the hours will be added to the member’s total.

II. Records of Participation Hours

The records of participation hours will be maintained by the Secretary.

In order for a project proposal to be approved, a majority of the executive officers and a majority of general members must approve the project. If either group does not approve the project, then the proposal does not pass. If a project proposal is rejected, the member can re-submit the proposal at the next general meeting.

Approval of Business Advisory Board

I. Business Advisory Board Members
The function of the Business Advisory Board is to serve a professional advisory board. Thus, Business Advisory Board members must be knowledgeable in at least one of the fours pillars of SIFE. Business Advisory Board members also need to be relatively involved, whether in projects, fund-raising, meeting with members, or communicating through email or phone.

II. Nominating Business Advisory Board Members
Any member can nominate a person to be Business Advisory Board member at a general meeting. In order to nominate a Business Advisory Board member, the nominator must present at the meeting the reasons for nominating the person. Members will then have the opportunity to voice their opinions, concerns, and ideas about the nominee.

III. Approving the Nomination
Approval of a nomination requires a 3/4 majority vote of all members present at the meeting. Upon approval of the nominee, the nominator will then extend an invitation for the person to join the Business Advisory Board. If the nomination is not approved, the person cannot be nominated again until the next academic quarter.
