Senior Northeastern hockey star Graig Mischler signed with the San Jose Sharks on Tuesday. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Mischler was originally an eighth-round draft pick of the Vancouver Canucks. He was released by the Canucks last Sunday and was scooped up by the Sharks later the next day.

The 6-foot-3-inch, 195-pound senior played 140 career games with the Huskies, finishing first in Hockey East in assists last season and with 108 career points.

He was a part of the Huskies' most productive scoring line last season as he finished with 10 goals and 32 assists, and was named Hockey East Player of the Month in February. Mischler's 32 assists was the most by a Husky player since Mike Taylor who had 46 in 1993-94 season.

"His stats got better every single year," Northeastern coach Bruce Crowder said. "He needs to get bigger but he's been better every year. We talked to NHL teams and told them to look at his stats. It's a thrill for us watching a guy that's been here for four years get signed."

"I'm obviously thrilled for Graig," he continued. "The kid deserves it. It's really great."

Mischler is scheduled to report to the Sharks' mini-camp this July before heading to rookie camp in San Jose.

Before all that, Mischler took the seniors in NU out to dinner.

"Maybe he'll take the coaching staff out next," Crowder said with a chuckle. "I think our bill might be a little less than the seniors'."

Mischler might be reunited in the future with his former Northeastern teammates, Jim Fahay and Willie Levesque, who both signed with the Sharks (Fahay in 1998, and Levesque in 1999).

Mischler came to NU from Canterbury Prep School and is originally from Holbrook, N.Y.
