Reading Royals 6, Dayton Bombers 3




Game recap: At the Nutter Center, the Royals scored two goals in less than a minute to take the lead and put two more in the net during a four-goal third period that lifted them to an important win.

   Reading (39-20-7) remained three points behind first-place Atlantic City, which beat Peoria 3-2, and tied with Trenton, which beat Wheeling 3-2, in the ECHL North Division.

   Reading led 2-1 midway through the second period before the last-place Bombers scored twice to take a 3-2 advantage.

   But Graig Mischler scored off an assist from Preston Mizzi 6:19 into the third period to tie it, and Jon Francisco scored a power-play goal 57 seconds later off assists from Troy Milam and Mischler to give Reading the lead.

   Cail MacLean scored Reading’s third power-play goal with 8:56 left to make it a 5-3 game, and Mike Sandbeck scored into an empty net with 24 seconds left to produce the final score.

   Mizzi and Eric Fortier scored Reading’s first two goals.

  Mischler had three points on a goal and two assists, and Mizzi and Francisco each had a goal and an assist. Milam had two points on two assists.

   Barry Brust stopped 29 shots for the win.

   Scott Cameron had a goal and two assists for Dayton (23-38-6).

   Three stars: 1. Graig Mischler, Reading. 2. Scott Cameron, Dayton. 3. Preston Mizzi, Reading.

Notable: The win was just the second for Reading this season when trailing entering the third period. The Royals are 2-15-2 in that situation. . . .The Royals had nine power-play chances, tying their season high. . . . Dayton also had nine power-play chances, but converted just one. . . .Goalie Barry Brust earned his 24th win, tying the Royals single-season record.

Up next: The Royals return to Reading and the Sovereign to begin their final regular season home stand. The Royals face the Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies tonight at 7:05 and the Peoria Rivermen Sunday at 1:05 p.m. They play host to Peoria Tuesday and Toledo Thursday.
