21. Go back and repeat steps 7 through 17 to paint this layer.

m8

(Note) The key to turning out a pretty painted flower is in the smudging, so take your time doing that part. You will see the cup of the petal unfold for you. If you get tired, save it and come back to finish it later.

m9

22. Hide the petals two layer. Set your foreground color to white, and your paint brush size to 10. Using the right and left slash shape brush, paint a white line around a good part of the outer petals.....filling in any places that need to be "connected."

m10

23. Now deselect and smudge gently.

m11

24. Activate petals two layer and do the same thing to it.

m12

25. Hide petals two layer. click on the petals one layer to activate it.

26. Choose the retouch tool, and set at push. shape- round density, hardness, opacity, set at 100% size 10. (vary the size as needed)

27. We need to round up the shape of the petals, so take the push tool and start shaping the petals to a more round shape.

Move your tool to the outside of the petal and just touch the edge to move it back a little and smooth. Move it slowly to round.

m13

28. New layer. Name it center. Make sure this is on the top of the layers palette.

29. Set foreground color to dark brown #400000, dark brown.

30. Use your paint brush, same settings as earlier, and paint a cup shape similar to this.

31. New layer, name it stamen. Move this layer under the center layer. Change foreground color to #4f4137, dark brown and background color to #c1945f , straw color. Change paint brush size to 3. Now paint some lines like this.

m15

32. Reduce brush size to 1, and paint more lines using these colors. #ffcc43, and #ffffc0.

m16

33. Now activate the center layer, and use retouch tool, smudge. Same settings as before, and gently smudge the brown into a soft semi-circle.

m17

34. New layer and name it leaf. Move this layer under the petal one layer. Set foreground color to #404000, dark olive green. Background color to #505105, olive green. Paint brush size 20, and paint shape similar to this.

m18

35. Change colors, use the olive green and paint inside the leaf shape.

36. Change color to #666703. Light olive green. Paint with this color the remainder of the center of the leaves.

m19

37. Use the retouch tool, smudge ... and smudge the colors together the same way you did the petals. Work the dark color towards the center of the leaf. Vary the size of the smudge brush. Use right and left slash shape. Deselect.

m20

38. If you want to re shape your leaf, use the push tool as we did earlier.

39. New layer and name it branch. Make sure this layer is beneath the leaf layer. Change foreground color to dark brown #400000. Use the paint brush, left slash, size 20 for the top portion of the branch, and then size 10 for the lower portion. Paint shape similar to this.

m21

40. Change color to #c1945f. straw color. Change paint brush size to 5. Paint a few lines similar to this. Then use magic wand and select. Invert selection.

41. Add a few navy blue lines with your paint brush. Use the retouch tool, set on smudge and blend these colors together gently.

m23

41. Use the retouch tool, set at push. Shape the branch a little better if needed.,

Finally finished! It's up to you to decorate or make a background you like for your lovely magnolia!
