Fifteen days, twenty two hours and twenty minutes into the flight of STS-107, the unthinkable happened. At 9:00am EST on 1 February 2003, Mission Control lost contact with Columbia, moments later the shuttle came apart. Once again the world lost 7 heroes. The 7 brave men and women knew the risks but in the interests of mankind they chose to go forth. The world will mourn these seven, just as it did the Challenger 7(STS-51L 28 January 1986), the Apollo 1 crew (27 January 1967), World Trade Center (11 September 2001) , and our POW/MIAs.
