The first thing to learn about self-defense…
Use it only to defend yourself
If you find that using self-defense techniques
Is the only way out…then be sure that you have
Learned your lessons well! The quickest way to
Go down to defeat... is to execute a technique improperly.
A lot of people are under the impression that a few
Lessons will somehow turn them into "Bruce Lee"…NOT!
It usually takes years of diligent practice to become that good.
The second thing to learn is that self-defense and traditional
Martial Arts…while sharing the same basis in concept and
theory…are different in practical application. The traditional
Martial Arts, when received well, can be very effective in the street.
But self-defense is primarily for the street. When applying a self-
defense technique, the whole purpose is to defend yourself.
while on the other hand, M.A. is used in the arena to gather points
in order to win tournaments. Belt rankings are attained by showing
your skills in a controlled situation. There is no controlled situation
in the street, unless you take control.
Self-defense can be learned in a relatively short period of time and
can be most effective.
I hope to have a video out in the market place by spring…so watch for it.
In the mean time, maybe I can project some philosophy onto this page
to hold your attention!

Fluidity of motion, I feel, is essential to responsive reflex in any given situation.
Relaxing is important in attaining the speed and accuracy needed to react in any situation.
Practice of fluid motion will not only improve your speed and accuracy, but help you to relax...whether from a hard days work
or a hard work out. When you think of fluid motion...think of a river...it may encounter many objects along it's journey, but the objects
do not stop the river, "this is fluidity of motion".

But not everyone can be this type of "martial artist", this requires a lot of training and practice.
There is, however, a way to use ordinary items, as well as your body, to defend yourself.
A good example is a broom stick, mop handle, pop can, pencil, magazine, or any number of ordinary everyday items, at your
immediate disposal. the trick is in using them effectivly. Remember, any weapon in the wrong hands is dangerous.
The fact remains that you can defend yourself, if necessity arises, with simple, "non-weapons".
