Video Making
Tips
- Make your video no less
than 2 minutes and no more than 10 minutes (if sponsorship video).
- Don't show bails (if
sponsorship video).
- Don't show the exact same
trick at the same skate spot more than once.
- Get good camera angles to
make the trick look clear, but as big as possible.
- While filming the trick,
show the skater at least at waist or above waist and down to his/her feet.
- Zoom as necessary;
usually only before or after the trick is performed.
- Try not to shake the
camera or find a friend who already has experience with cameras.
- (If sponsorship video)
show no less than 20 trick clips, this way the viewer get a good idea of
your skating ability.
- (If sponsorship video)
fish eye lenses are a must! They really help your tricks look huge. Some say
this is cheating, but that's for you to decide.
- Film a variety of tricks,
flips, grinds, grabs, etc.
- Be creative! Film at a
number of skate spots and use different camera angles to spice up your
video.
- (If sponsorship) have one
skater per video: using a dual-skater sponsorship video may cause the better
skater to get picked over the other when one skater looks bad compared to
the other.
- Edit your video clips to
make the video look professional.
- While editing, cut off an
bad gestures or curses that may offend your viewer.
- Use effects sparingly.
Over use may cause the viewer to pay attention to the effects rather than
the skating.
- (If sponsorship video)
put the shop/company your trying to get sponsored by in the credits of your
video. I know its a real suck-up thing to do, but it shows the shop/company
that you are influenced by them.
