Skateboarding Trick Tips

If you want to get into the world of skateboarding there’s more to it than going out and buying a $200 board, it takes a butt load of practice and a lot of getting pissed when you can’t stick a trick.  Just stay cool and stick with it and you’ll be shreddin’ with the big boys.  The Ollie is the base of all skateboarding.  Once you conquer the ollie there is no end to the possibilities of what you can learn to do. All of the trick tips below were made by me, Eliot Van Otteren.

Ollie - It is easiest to learn in the grass when you first start out so that you do not lose control of your board.  To begin your ollie, push down on the tail of the board, slapping it against the ground while simultaneously lifting up your front foot.  A split second later, raise your back foot and slide your front foot forward along the board quickly.  This motion will bring the back truck off the ground and level out your board.  Stomp down both feet at the same time.  Do that a million times over until you get it down.  Once you get it down it becomes more like one motion than all this trick tip crap.

Kickflip - The kickflip is the same basic motion as the ollie except that once you slap your tail instead of sliding your foot straight up the board slide it off to the side and push down with your toe.  This might take you a while to get used to because remember you suck and you just started.  But keep it up and you’ll be rippin’ soon!  Sorry, back to the tip. If you do this right your board will rotate towards your body underneath you.  When you see the grip come around again catch your board and stomp it down.  Perfect it and take it to the stairs.

Heelflip - If you don’t know skateboarding the heelflip is going to look exactly like a kickflip.  The difference is you are flipping the board on the opposite side that you would kickflip on, and you are flipping the board with your heel instead of your toe.  The board will rotate away from your body underneath you.  Again, spot the grip, catch and stomp.

Pop Shove-it - When you do a pop shove-it the board is going to rotate in a 180-degree motion under your feet.  When you land your board will be backwards underneath you.  To do a pop-shove-it, begin to slap your tail like you would an ollie but push your tail behind you with your back foot. As you bring your front foot up to slide it, sort of throw the nose of the board out in front of you.  Once you leave the ground bend your legs so the board can rotate freely.  Once it rotates 180-degrees catch and stomp.
