What
Would Happen
By: Lara
Electricity…eye to
eye…hey don’t I know you…I can’t speak…stripped my senses on the spot…I’ve
never been defenseless…I can’t even make sense of this…you speak and I don’t
hear a word…
Shelley sighed as she looked
around the room. Her own party and she
felt way past alone. The large
“ballroom” of the house she shared with Lance was filled with people, and yet
she knew maybe twelve of them. She
understood that he had a lot of people he HAD to invite to their engagement
party, and she wanted to meet all his friends and family from Mississippi, but
she also knew that most of the people were from the industry and he had no
choice but to ask them. She sighed
again and wandered over to the buffet table.
They had spared no expense; the table was practically groaning with
food. She picked a strawberry from the
fruit tray and idly nibbled on it. Her
eyes searched the room for Lance. She smiled as she saw his slightly spiky hair
bob up and down as he nodded at something one of his producer friends was
saying. His green eyes flicked over to
her and he gave her a warm smile before turning his attention back to his
friend.
Shelley’s eyes wandered around the rest of the
room, opening slightly as an amused smirk caught her gaze. Justin Timberlake had three women eagerly
hanging on every word he was saying, and she could tell from the look on his
face that he thought the whole situation was hilarious. Justin had arrived at the party alone, and
he’d go home alone. He wasn’t one to
just pick someone up at a private party…but the girls didn’t know that. He wouldn’t use the engagement party of one
of his best friends as a way to pick up women.
He respected Lance and Shelley too much.
Shelley didn’t know Justin all that well. When the guys weren’t on tour, they tended
not to hang out much. They had too many
other people to see. She had met him
countless times, of course, and every meeting left her a bit starstruck. There was just something about Justin’s personality
and attitude that made you like him, but at the same time it made her feel
uncomfortable. There was something in
those blue eyes that unnerved her, and it had taken her almost a year to figure
it out. She was uncomfortable because
she was sexually attracted to him. She
loved Lance, and thought he was hotter then hell, but Justin was something
totally different.
Shelley gasped to herself as Justin excused
himself from the trio of women and sauntered over to her. He reached around her to pick up a piece of
cantaloupe. “Hey…don’t I know
you?” He teased.
“Hi, Justin,” Shelley said, ordering herself to
form words. She couldn’t believe she
was acting like a crazed teenybopper fan.
This was her fiancé’s good friend.
“Enjoying yourself?”
“It’s nice,” he said faintly. He walked away and quickly came back with
two glasses of champagne. He handed her
one. “To the groom…and the lovely
bride.” He tilted his glass towards
hers.
“You’re not old enough to drink,” she told him,
kicking herself for sounding like an idiot.
“Hasn’t stopped me before,” he said with a slow
smile. He clinked his glass to hers and
took a swallow of the champagne.
Shelley took a large gulp out of her glass. Justin continued to make idle chatter but
she didn’t hear it. She let her eyes
wander over his soft curls, his smooth cheeks, his pink sensuous lips, down to
his throat. She refused to allow
herself to look any further south.
The room is spinning
out of control…act like you didn’t notice…brushed my hand. Forbidden fruit, ring on my finger. You’re such a moral moral man. You throw it away, no question. Will I pretend I’m innocent?
“So…any date set yet?” Justin leaned around Shelley for another
piece of fruit and she caught a whiff of his cologne. The scent sent such a
shock through her body that she placed a hand on the buffet table.
“We were thinking maybe in the spring,” she said
weakly.
“Well, I wish you guys the complete best,” Justin
told her, flashing his beautiful smile. “Lance is wonderful, and he deserves
someone just as great. You definitely
fill that description.”
“Thank you,” Shelley said with a smile. They both reached for a napkin at the same
time and their hands touched. They both
jumped, glanced at each other, then looked away. Justin reached for her left hand and took it, studying the
diamond and emerald ring Lance had placed on her finger two weeks earlier.
“Gorgeous.
Fits you perfectly…fits your hand, I mean,” Justin almost
stammered. Shelley looked at him and
they both laughed at the odd vibe that was passing between them.
“What about you?
Anyone special right now?”
Shelley asked, looking at him seriously. She did want him to be happy.
She wanted everyone to have the joy she felt with Lance. Justin studied his shoes.
“I want someone.
I want to settle down with someone.
I so envy you and Lance. I want
someone to come home to, you know? I
thought I had someone…but it ended up her heart really belonged to someone
else,” he answered softly, and Shelley knew who he meant. He had really fallen hard for one of her
friends, but it just so happened that when he met this friend, she was with
someone else and was totally happy there.
“I won’t even attempt to ruin anything like that.”
“I’m sorry,” Shelley said softly.
“It’s okay.
She and Nick deserve each other,” Justin said, smiling once more. “Though he DOES seem to forget he’s white
sometimes.”
Shelley laughed so hard people turned to
stare. Lance looked to see who was
entertaining her so much, but when he saw Justin he just rolled his eyes and
went back to his conversation.
“I hope you find someone,” she said kindly. “You have a lot to offer,” she said
innocently, meaning a lot more then she actually said.
“So…how long have you and Lance
been together again?” Justin
asked. Shelley made herself stop
looking at his lips and tried to pay attention.
“We’ve known each other about fifteen months, and
been together for ten,” she told him.
“Oh, right,” Justin said, nodding. “And to think I saw you first.”
“What?”
She whispered, and he flashed that smile again.
“I saw you first at that dinner thingy. I nudged him and before I could even say
anything he was trotting over to say hi to you. I’ve never seen him jump and run like that before.” Justin looked her over from head to
toe. “You have that affect on men,
though.”
“Stop it,” Shelley said, playfully swatting at
him.
“You think I’m teasing?” Justin whispered, moving in close. She swallowed deeply and just looked at him. He laughed a teasing laugh. “That’s why I love you, Shel. You’re so easy to tease.” He looked down at her and she had to bite
her lip to keep from just grabbing him.
“Well, I guess I should mingle.
Your man will probably be over here to claim you soon anyway. Can I give you a good luck kiss?” Shelley nodded.
What would happen if we
kissed…would your tongue slip past my lips…would you run away? Would you stay? Or would I melt into you…mouth to mouth…lust to lust…spontaneously
combust…what would happen if we kissed?
Justin placed a hand on each of
her arms right below her shoulders. She
licked her lips and looked up at him, gasping slightly at the look in his
eyes. His eyes were dark, almost
smoldering. He slowly ran his pink
tongue over his lips almost as if he didn’t know he was doing it. Shelley could only stare at him. She wanted it so bad it hurt. She wanted to feel those lips on hers. She forgot everything…forgot the ring on her
finger…forgot the party going on around her.
She wanted Justin Timberlake to kiss her, and from the fire that seemed
to rage inbetween their bodies she knew he felt the same way. He slowly moved down towards her.
“Shel…Justin.”
Shelley’s head turned towards the sound of Lance’s voice and Justin’s
lips made her forehead their target.
“Come on. We have to get up
there and thank everyone for coming.”
He turned to Justin. “Thanks for
watching over my girl here.”
“No problem,” Justin answered with a lazy smile,
bringing Shelley’s hand up to his lips.
He allowed them to nibble on a knuckle for a split second before he let
go. “Any time.”
