The Perfect Storm

By:  Jaimie

“I promise I’ll go over and make sure everything is secure. I just finished my house, so I’ll leave right now. Alright, bye Ms. Johnnie.” Lance said into the phone. Lance was one of guys in the popular boy bands NSYNC. He got some time off, so he decided to spend his vacation at home, and look what happened. A category 4 hurricane was headed their way. He just finished securing his house when one of his best friends mother called him. Her parents were out of town and they got news of the hurricane that was headed their way. They asked Lance to go check on her and make sure she was okay. Of course he agreed. Jaimie was one of his best friends, and he never wanted anything to happen to her. He hadn’t kept in touch with her like he should have while he was on the road, but he just hardly had any time while he was on the road. They were either doing interviews, or learning some new dance step. When he did have any free time it was usually spent sleeping. He felt guilty about it, but he knew she would understand. He locked up his house and ran to get into his black 4-Runner. The wind was already picking up and the rain was starting to fall. It took him 30 minutes to drive the 5 miles to her house because of the people trying to evacuate last minute. When he got there he saw her outside boarding up her windows. He hadn’t seen her since February, and it was now August. She was definitely a sight for sore eyes. He never realized just how beautiful she was. Even now as the wind and rain blew wildly around her she was beautiful. Her long brown hair hung loose and was blowing all round her. She was soaked to the bone already. Her white tank top clung to her body and her jean shorts hugged every curve. She was so busy trying to get the last of her windows boarded up that she didn’t even hear his truck pull up. She didn’t notice him until he came up behind her and helped her nail the board in place. She looked over at him startled for a moment but said nothing as she continued to work to get her house secure. They worked in complete silence until everything was finished. All Jaimie could think about was how good he looked. She hadn’t seen him in so long, but she never missed anything when he was on TV or even their radio interviews. She always tuned in hoping for at least one glance at him. It hurt her deeply when he never wrote or called her while he was gone. They had been friends for so long, yet once his career took off it was like she disappeared behind all of the fans and paparazzi. She didn’t begrudge him his success. She knew he deserved it more than anything, she just missed him. She missed their talks, their long walks, the way they could tell each other anything. Over the years that they had known each other she had fallen in love with him. She knew all he felt for her was friendship and she was okay with that. She wanted him any way she could get him, but now it was as if she didn’t exist to him anymore. That hurt the worst of all. She kept her mouth shut and said nothing.

Once they finished the house, they went inside and began taking supplies down to the underground shelter. They made sure they had plenty of blankets, water, food, batteries, and a radio to listen to. Jaimie grabbed some of her most irreplaceable things to take with her, in case something were to happen and her home was destroyed. She didn’t want to think that way, but she knew it was a possibility. Once they locked themselves inside the shelter they stood there looking at each other in an awkward silence. Jaimie was the first to turn away.

“Well, it’s nice to know you’re still alive.” Jaimie said bitterly as she began to put their supplies away.

Lance sighed heavily, “I’m so sorry Jaimie. I know it hurt you when I never called or wrote you. I was just so busy that I never had time.”

“Oh, was that it? I just thought you forgot I existed.”

“Come on Jaim, you know that’s not true. You’re not being fair.”

“Fair, Fair?? Is it fair that the only way I ever heard anything about you and how you were doing was from watching MTV? We were best friends Lance. Did you forget the meaning of that?”

“I know very well what the meaning of best friends is.”

“Could have fooled me.”

< pure It’s you? from something wanting always are who people by surrounded being friends, and family your away Being road? the on is it hard how realized you>

“You know what Lance, no I don’t know how that is. And you know why I don’t know? Because you never told me. We used to be able to tell each other anything, now you can’t even pick up the phone to tell me ‘Hey, Jaim everything’s going okay. It’s tough being on the road I’m constantly being pulled in different directions, but it’s what I always wanted. Well, I gotta go. Talk to you later.’ That’s all you would have needed to do Lance. I didn’t even mean enough to you for you to do that.”

They sat in silence for a while. Jaimie fixed a pallet on the floor with a few of the blankets. She turned on the radio to a local pop station and laid down with her back to him. At least a half hour passed without one word spoken between them. The only sound was the music coming from the radio. The DJ came on the radio to announce the next song, ‘Okay, here’s the newest song from Westlife “I Don’t Wanna Fight”. I want everyone out there to listen carefully to the words of this song. They are very powerful words that should make you think next time you fight with your special someone. Here it is “I Don’t Wanna Fight” by Westlife’.

I can’t sleep, everything I ever knew
Is a lie without you
I can’t breathe, when my heart is broke in two
There’s no beat without you

You’re not gone but you’re not here
At least that’s the way it seems tonight
If we could try to end these wars
I know that we could make it right
‘Cause baby...

I don't wanna fight no more
I forgot what we were fighting for
And this loneliness that’s in my heart
Won’t let me be apart from you
I don’t wanna have to try
Girl to live without you in my life
So I’m hoping we can start tonight
‘Cause I don’t wanna fight no more

How can I leave, when everything that I adore
And everything I’m living for, girl it’s in you
I can’t dream, sleepless nights have got me bad
The only dream I ever had is being with you

I know that we can make it right
It’s gonna take a little time
Let’s not leave ourselves with no way out
Let’s not cross that line

I don’t wanna fight no more
I forgot what we were fighting for
And this loneliness that’s in my heart
Won’t let me be apart from you
I don’t wanna have to try
Girl to live without you in my life
So I’m hoping we can start tonight
‘Cause I don’t wanna fight no more

Remember that I made a vow
That I would never let you go
I meant it then I mean it now
And I want to tell you so

I don’t wanna fight no more
I forgot what we were fighting for
And this loneliness that’s in my heart
Won’t let me be apart from you
I don’t wanna have to try
Girl to live without you in my life
So I’m hoping we can start tonight
‘Cause I don’t wanna fight no more

I don’t wanna fight no more
I forgot what we were fighting for
And this loneliness that’s in my heart
Won’t let me be apart from you
I don’t wanna have to try
Girl to live without you in my life
So I’m hoping we can start tonight
‘Cause I don’t wanna fight no more

It’s a lie, without you
Without you

Lance listened carefully to the words of the song, letting them sink in. It said everything that he wanted so badly to say to her. After the song ended he still sat there silently watching her. Her body trembled as she laid there on the floor. He realized she was crying. He sat down on the floor beside her and pulled her into his embrace. She clung to him as she cried. She had held her tears back so long, she just couldn’t hold them back anymore. Listening to the song just made the damn break. Lance felt a tug at his heart. He knew he hurt her terribly when he never called or wrote her. She was one of the most important people in his life. He never wanted to see her hurt, yet he himself had hurt her in one of the worst possible ways. He pulled away from her and looked at her tearstained face. He gently wiped her tears away and stroked her hair back.

“I’m so sorry I hurt you Jaimie. You’re the last person in the world I’d want to hurt, yet I hurt you anyway. I don’t know what to say or do to make it better.”

“Did you really forget about me?” Jaimie asked timidly, sounding almost like a little girl.

“Of course not. I guess I thought it would be easier if I didn’t talk to you. It would just make me miss you more.”

“You missed me?”

Lance looked her in the eyes for a moment before answering, “More than anything.”

For the first time since he came back he saw her smile. He missed that too. It lit up her whole face and made her blue eyes sparkle. He had to smile back at her.

“Good. I missed you too.” Jaimie said as she turned to grab her photo album. “I started this when you left. I started with pictures of us when we first met when you first moved to Florida to try to get NSYNC off the ground. I put different things throughout the album that reminded me of you. This is the last picture of the two of us. It was right before you left to go promote No Strings Attached back in February. It was the last time we saw each other or talked to each other for that matter.” Jaimie’s eyes fell again as she thought about the months of loneliness she felt without him. She quickly pushed that feeling aside and continued to show him the album. “I filled the rest with various articles about you guys, and pictures from magazines. I’m so proud of you guys. I was so happy when I heard about your phenomenal record sales and how well your tour was. I just wanted you to see that I still kept up with you even though you were so far away.”

Lance was speechless. He didn’t know what he did to deserve such a wonderful person in his life. These months without her had been the longest months of his life. It made him realized just how important she was to him, and what she really meant to him. He knew the feelings he felt for her went deeper than friendship. How could they not? He had known her since before he ever made it big in his career. He knew she was here with him because she really wanted to be, not because of his money or fame. She loved him for who he was inside, not for his image.

“Oh, look at his picture. This is of you guys at the MTV Movie Awards. I watched you guys that night. You’re performance was awesome.” Jaimie said as she looked over the pictures of them on the red carpet. She noticed the girl that had been with Lance that night at the awards. She remembered how her heart broke when she was that picture for the first time. She tried to hide the hurt even now as she looked at the picture. “Is this your new girlfriend?”

“Who? Karrah?”

“Is that her name?”

“Yeah, that’s her name. She’s just a friend, nothing more. They made it out to be more than it really was. I really didn’t want to take anyone to the show, but they thought since JC and Chris had someone that I should take someone too.”

“What about Joey and Justin? They didn’t take anyone.”

“They refused, I wish I would have, but I didn’t think it would hurt to go with her. She was just a friend. Was being the operative word here.”

“Why do you say that?”

“Well, later that night I found out the hard way that she wanted to be more than friends. I just told her as politely as I could that I wasn’t interested in her that way.”

“I take it she didn’t take it well?” Jaimie said as her smile grew wider.

“No, she didn’t take it well at all.” Lance laughed.

“So you aren’t dating anyone right now?”

“No, I’m not. There’s someone I’m really interested in, but I’m afraid to tell her. What about you?”

“Oh, you know me. I’ve never been one to really go out to meet anyone. I’ve gone out a few times, but nothing ever came of any of the dates.” Jaimie said, turning her face away from him so he wouldn’t see the disappointment on hers.

“Good.”

“Good? Why do you say that? Do you want me to spend the rest of my life alone?” Jaimie asked angrily.

“No, I don’t want you to spend the rest of your life alone. I want you to spend the rest of your life with me.” Lance finished quietly.

Jaimie couldn’t believe what she just heard. It was just to good to be true, “What did you say?”

“These months apart from you were the longest, most miserable months of my life. I had a lot of success with my career, but it really meant nothing to me because you weren’t there to share it with me. I’ve come to realize that I love you. I love you as my friend, but I have come to love you as a woman as well. You have my heart, no one else will ever be able to take your place. If you don’t feel the same way I’ll respect your feelings. I don’t want to lose your friendship....”

Jaimie silenced him when she put her fingers to his mouth, her eyes sparkled with unshed tears. “I’ve loved you for so long. I don’t remember a time that I didn’t love you.”

“Why didn’t you ever tell me?”

“I was afraid you wouldn’t feel the same and that it would ruin our friendship.”

Lance looked into her eyes and saw the same love he felt for her reflected in her eyes. He gently caressed her face before kissing her for the first time. The moment their lips touched it was like magic. It felt as though their mouths molded together perfectly, and were always meant to be together. Lance slipped his tongue into her mouth, eliciting a soft moan from her. She ran her nails through his hair, pulling him closer to her. Jaimie tilted her head to kiss him deeper. They both stood on their knees to allow better access to each other’s bodies. Lance ran his hands under her tank top, rubbing the soft skin on her lower back. It didn’t take him long to disgard her tank top, leaving her in front of him in her shorts and bra. He looked down at her relishing her beauty. Her lips were swollen from his kisses, her skin was pink from desire, her eyes held a mixture of love and passion. She was beautiful. Jaimie quickly took off his T-shirt, anxious to feel his skin on hers. She ran her hands up and down his firm chest, raining kisses all over him. She gently sucked on his neck for a moment, causing Lance to moan softly. As she continued her assault on his senses, Lance fumbled with the clasp on her bra. He finally got it unhooked and pulled it away from her body slowly. He had never seen her like this before, and it was more beautiful than he ever imagined. Jaimie could feel her desire burn brighter for him as he looked at her, hungrily drinking in the sight of her before him. Lance began to unbutton her shorts, never taking his eyes off hers. He slowly pushed them off her hips along with her panties. She stood before him in all her glory, he had to remind himself that this wasn’t a dream. She knelt down again on the floor and began to undo the button on his shorts. She could feel his erection begging to be touched. She caressed him through his boxers, feeling him tremble under her gentle touch. She pushed his shorts and boxers down his legs, finally getting rid of the last barrier between them. Lance hungrily brought his lips down to hers again. Jaimie laid back down on the blanket, pulling Lance with her. As he continued to kiss her, his hands ran up and down her body, wanting to feel every inch of her. From her tiny feet, up her long legs, stopping for a moment to gently caress her sensitive center, cause her to arch beneath him, wanting him to touch her more. He withdrew his hand, causing her to whimper slightly. He continued his exploration running his hand up her firm stomach, stopping again to cup each breast in his hands. He gently kneaded them in his hands, careful to give each one the same pleasure. Jaimie’s body was on fire. She knew she wouldn’t be able to stand this much longer. She needed to feel him inside her. She reached between their bodies and stroked his length with her small hands causing him to grunt in pleasure. He took her hint and positioned himself above her. They broke their kiss long enough to look into each others eyes. Lance questioned with his eyes if this is what she wanted to do. Jaimie answered him by spreading her legs to allow him access to all of her. He moved to her entrance, pausing again before entering. He bent down and began kissing her again, as he kissed her he quickly thrust into her. Jaimie screamed briefly from the pain of the invasion. Lance laid there still for a few moments, allowing her to become accustomed to him. He continued to kiss and caress her body, trying to soothe the pain away. Soon the pain subsided and pleasure replaced it. She began to move under him, giving him the signal to begin. He began to thrust in and out of her slowly at first. She soon found the rhythm and began to meet his thrusts. Their movements became faster and faster until they were both moaning each other’s names. She could feel her release approaching. The fire that was burning inside her was becoming hotter and hotter. She felt her walls begin to tremble around him. He knew she was close to her release. Her breathing was becoming more rapid and she began to tremble around him. He knew his release was coming as well. He began to pump into her faster wanting release. Jaimie finally fell over the edge screaming his name as her orgasm hit her hard. Lance found his release as soon as her walls began to tighten around him. He came moaning her name over and over again. He lay still on top of her as they both came down from their intense orgasms. He slowly pulled out of her and pulled her to him. She laid her head on his chest, listening to his heart beat strongly in his chest. She couldn’t believe she just made love to Lance. She had dreamed about it for so long, and it finally came true. She looked up at him and smiled brightly.

“What?” Lance asked looking at her suspiciously.

“Nothing. I’m just so happy. I’ve dreamed of this moment for so long and it’s finally happened.”

“I know what you mean, but you know what?”

“What’s that?”

“It was definitely worth waiting for.” Lance said as he kissed her gently.

They continued to kiss until they heard a weather update come on the radio.

‘We interrupt this program to bring you a weather report. Hurricane Danielle was blown back out to sea, causing only tropical storm winds and rain along the Florida coast. She is quickly loosing strength and will be reduced to a tropical storm within the hour. It was a very close call for everyone along the east coast. We should all be very thankful for this turn of events.’

Lance and Jaimie looked at each other and laughed. Yes, they were very thankful. They were thankful that Hurricane Danielle had threatened their coast. If it wasn’t for her they may not have cleared things up between them and they would still be apart. Neither of them were ever going to let that happen again. Lance knew he was finally where he was meant to be, in Jaimie’s arms. He knew as long as they were together everything would be alright. He was never going to let her go.

“I love you.” Lance said as he looked into her eyes.

“I love you, too.” Jaimie smiled back at him.

He began to kiss her again, slowly rebuilding the fire between their bodies. As they began to love each other again, Lance couldn’t help but think about what that weather man said. He was very thankful. Not because the storm missed them, but because it came and brought them together at last. Yes, it was definitely The Perfect Storm.

The End
