At
First Sight
By: Jaimie
“Jace come on, “
Lance’s girlfriend Lily Bentley yelled up the stairs. “We’re supposed to be at
the airport in twenty minutes. If we’re late picking up my sister I’ll never
forgive you.”
JC descended the
stairs two at a time a smile on his handsome face, “I’m coming. We won’t be
late I promise. Where’s Lance anyway?”
“He got called in
for a meeting at Free Lance. He said he’d be able to make dinner tonight
though.”
“Is this your
sister’s first trip to Florida?”
“No, she’s been down
before, I just wasn’t with Lance at the time.” Lily smiled over at JC as they
climbed into JC’s jeep. “Thanks for going with me JC. I really appreciate it.”
“You’re welcome
sweets. You know I always do what I can for you.”
“I know. That’s
why I love you so.”
JC chuckled, “Does
that mean you’ll leave Lance for me?”
Lily rolled her
eyes, “No silly. Two very different types of love.”
“I know. I was
just joking.”
“I know you were.
I really want you to find someone you can love like I love Lance.”
“So do I Lil, but
I dunno. I haven’t had much luck in that department.”
“Yeah, you have
made quite a few bad choices. Don’t worry I’m not mentioning Bobbie, I just
want you to be with a nice girl for a change.”
“Well if you know
of any send her my way.”
“I will I promise.”
Lily smiled. Once they arrived at the airport, they easily found the correct
gate where they sat and waited for her sister’s flight to deboard. Not ten
minutes later, people began to make their way into the terminal. Lily stood,
wringing her hands impatiently as she searched the crowd for her sister. Then
she saw her.
“Dani!” she
yelled, excitedly waving at her. The world seemed to move in slow motion the
moment JC saw her. She looked a lot like Lily actually. Dani’s long brown hair
was kissed with blonde highlights and fell straight down her back instead of in
curls like Lily’s.
“Lil!” she yelled
back embracing her sister in a warm hug. “Oh I’ve missed you.”
“I’ve missed you
too.” Lily pulled away as she turned to JC. “JC this is my sister Danielle.
Dani, this is JC.”
JC extended his
hand towards her, his heart pounding in his chest. “Hi. It’s nice to finally
meet you.” The moment they touched felt like pure magic.
Danielle blinked
in confusion for a moment before smiling up at him, “Hi. It’s nice to meet you
too.” Instantly her heart began to race.
“Well,” Lily
looked back and forth between them. “Let’s get your bags and head home.” Lily
and Danielle walked out of the airport together, their arms linked, talking
about everything that had been going on since they last saw each other. JC
trailed behind them, carrying her luggage content to simply watch her smile and
laugh with her sister. He couldn’t believe what he felt after only knowing her
for less than ten minutes.
“Where’s Lance? I
was hoping to meet the man who stole my big sister’s heart.”
“He got called in
at Free Lance for a meeting.”
“He’ll be joining
us for dinner tonight though won’t he?”
“Of course. Hey
Jace, want to stay for dinner tonight?” Lily turned to ask him.
“I don’t want to
intrude. I know you want to catch up with your sister.”
“You won’t be
intruding. I promise. Please stay.”
Danielle turned
and gave him a heart stopping smile. JC knew he was helplessly hooked, “Sure.
I’d love to.”
“Great.” Lily
smiled.
JC was quiet for
most of the ride home. All he could think about was Danielle and how she
smiled, the glorious music her laughter made, her voice and the way it seemed
to calm his soul, even the way she smelled of vanilla. Sweet and addictive. JC
didn’t know what was going on in his mind. He had never been a believer in love
at first sight, but after meeting Danielle his opinions had changed. When he
got back to Lance’s place, JC carried her bags to the guest room.
“Thank you so much
JC. It was really sweet of you to carry my bags for me.” Danielle smiled,
softly touching his arm.
JC smiled and
blushed bashfully, “You’re welcome. I guess I’ll see you later tonight.”
“You’re leaving?”
she asked, her voice carrying the slightest hint of disappointment.
“Yeah, but I’ll be
back tonight for dinner. I just have a few errands to run.”
“Oh, okay. See you
tonight then.”
“You can count on
it.” JC turned to Lily as she walked in the room. “I have to run Lil, but I’ll
be back for dinner okay.”
“Okay. It’s at
seven.”
“You got it
sweets.” JC smiled as he gave her a quick kiss on the cheek. “See you later.”
“Bye Jace.” Lily
laughed.
“Bye.” Danielle
called out. She watched JC retreat until she couldn’t see him anymore. She
looked over at Lily who had a huge smiled on her face, “What?”
“You like him don’t
you?”
“Sure he seems
nice.” she tried to give her a nonchalant answer.
“Oh please. I know
you better than anyone. I know when you like a guy.”
“Oh shut up Lily.”
Danielle said exasperated. “So what if I do.”
“Honey I never
said it was a bad thing. JC is a sweetheart. He’s definitely someone Mom and
Dad would have loved to see you end up with.” Lily grinned. “He’s pretty easy
on the eyes too.”
Danielle laughed,
“Are you forgetting about Lance?”
“No of course not,
but I’m not blind either.”
“Do you think he’s
interested?”
“I think so. I’ve
never seen him blush when someone complimented him before. I think there’s
potential.”
Danielle giggled
like a little school girl, “What should I wear for dinner tonight?”
“Something sexy
yet sophisticated. That’s the ultimate combo for JC.” Lily smiled as they
emptied out Danielle’s suitcases trying to find the perfect outfit for dinner
that night.

JC ran straight to
Lance’s office at Free Lance Entertainment, desperate for advice. Lance looked
up from the papers in his hands. He was surprised to see JC standing in front
of his desk with a completely lost expression on his face.
“Is everything
okay?”
“No everything is
not okay.”
“Is something
wrong with Lily?” Lance asked, beginning to get nervous.
“No, no she’s
fine. It’s her sister.” JC sighed heavily before throwing himself down in the
chair. “I think I’m in love man.”
Lance burst out
laughing, “What?”
“Dude, I’m being
completely serious. I know I just met her, but I just know I’m in love with
her. Do you believe in love at first sight?”
“Well, I honestly
never did until I met Lily. I’m sorry I laughed at you man, but I guess when
someone else says it it just seems funny.”
“What am I going
to do?”
“Seeing as though
I don’t even know Danielle except for what Lily has told me, I don’t think I
can be of much help.”
“What did you do
when you met Lily?”
“Well, I’m not
always Mr. Straight-forward. When I first met her it was of course at Joey’s
place when we got back from the No Strings Attached Tour. Joey and Nicole threw
a party. Lily was a friend of Nicole’s. When I first saw her its like
everything in the world stopped for what seemed like hours. She was the most
beautiful woman I’d ever met. I actually went to Nicole to get more information
on her, what kind of flowers she liked, what kind of music and stuff like that.
She was really instrumental in getting us together. Once I got more confidence
I was finally able to ask her out. The rest is history.” Lance smiled softly.
“But you’re different JC. You’re more outspoken and outgoing. You have the
confidence to really go for it.”
“I know with most
girls I’m attracted to it’s easy for me to just go for it, but this time it’s
different. I feel all tongue tied and clumsy when I’m around her. I’m afraid
I’ll make a fool of myself.”
“If what you feel
is the real thing you have to go for it JC. I know you don’t want to let your
chance at finding your true love pass you by because you were afraid.”
“You’re right. I
should just go for it.” JC smiled timidly over at Lance. “I hope you’re right.”
“So do I Jace. You
deserve to be happy.”
“Okay, um I know
you’re busy so I’ll let you get back to work. I’ll see you tonight okay.”
“Tonight? Are you
coming over tonight?”
“Yeah. Lily
invited me over for dinner.”
“Oh. Great. See
you then. Good luck JC.”
“Thanks man. See
ya.” JC quickly turned and left Lance’s office, his mind already made up. He
was going to go for it no matter what. He figured Lance was right. If he really
wanted to have true happiness he needed to throw all caution to the wind and go
after Danielle. He just hoped she felt the same way.

“Are you sure this
is the right dress?” Danielle asked for the hundreth time. Lily had chosen her
black, strapless dress with a wrap around skirt. It hugged her small waist, and
flowed over every curve as if the dress was made specifically for her. It fell
just above her knees.
“For the hundreth
time yes. You looked beautiful Dani. JC will be speechless.” Danielle couldn’t
stop the blush that crept up her cheeks at the thought of JC.
“Okay.” Once she
was satisfied that her dress was appropriate, Lily began to work on her hair.
She ppulled it up in a French twist, leaving a few sun kissed strands down to
frame her face. Once she was ready, Lily looked at her with a bright smile on
her face.
“Perfect.” was all
she said before giving her a quick hug and dashing off to get ready herself.
“Lil, sweetie I’m
home.” Lance called out as he entered their bedroom.
“I’m in the
bathroom getting ready.” she answered. The door opened slowly till she saw
Lance leaning against the door frame with a lustful gleam in his eyes. “Hey,
how was your meeting?” Lily asked, ignoring the look he was giving her as she
continued to clasp her earrings as she stood there clad in only her satin
bathrobe that fell just above her knees.
Lance began to
walk towards her, wrapping his arms around her small waist pulling her back
into his warm embrace, “You smell good.” he whispered, his lips softly grazing
the nape of her neck, sending chills down her spine.
“Thank you.” she
smiled at him through the mirror. She laughed breathlessly as he continued to
kiss her neck and exposed shoulder. “Baby, as much as I’m enjoying this, you
really need to hurry if you’re going to be ready on time.”
Lance pouted, “Okay,
okay. How was your sister’s flight?” he asked as he quickly undressed before
stepping into the shower.
“She said it was
okay. They had some turbulance when they first took off from New York, but all
in all it was okay. Guess what else.”
“What?”
“You have to
promise you won’t mention it to anyone that I told you.”
“I promise.”
“Okay,” Lily
grinned. “My little sister has a thing for JC.”
Lance was quiet
for a moment, “Are you serious?”
Yep. I got her to
confess it this afternoon after he left.”
Suddenly the
shower was turned off and Lance opened the door. He reached for the fluffy blue
towel Lily had laid out for him. He quickly dried off before stepping out of
the shower, the towel wrapped around his waist. “Okay you’re turn. Guess what.”
“What?”
“JC showed up at
my office this afternoon after dropping you off. He was telling me he was in
love with your sister.”
Lily dropped the
applicator to the lip gloss she had been applying, “What?!? Did you say love?”
Lance chuckled,
“Yep. Those are the words he used.”
“He’s in love with
her?” she asked again still shocked.
“That’s what he
said. He said it was like love at first sight.” Lance paused for a moment. “You
know I laughed when he first told me, but I have to say I believe him.”
“You do?”
“Yeah. I believe in
love at first sight. That’s the way I felt when I first saw you.”
Lily blushed and
smiled, “Really?”
“Yes, so you see
it’s not hard for me to believe JC when he says he’s in love with Danielle.”
Lily wrapped her
arms around Lance’s neck, a content smile on her face. “Do you know how much I
love you?”
Lance smiled
softly, “Yes I do because I love you that much too.”
“I’m a very lucky
woman.” she kissed his lips softly. “I don’t know what I’d do without you.”
“That’s something
you’ll never have to worry about.” he kissed her nose softly before they each
went back to getting ready for dinner. Lily was in the kitchen finishing up
their dinner when Danielle made her way downstairs.
“Mmmm, it smells
great Lil.” Danielle gave her a big smile. “You look great too, but I fell
kinda overdressed compared to you.” Lily was wearing a lavender slip dress that
fell just above her knees. The dress was fitted and really accentuated her
figure.
“Oh stop Dani. You
look great.”
“Thank you,” she
blushed. “Is Lance home yet?”
“As a matter of
face he is. He’s just finishing getting ready. As they spoke, Lance was making
his way downstairs. He followed the sound of female voices to the kitchen.
“It smells
wonderful Lily.” he smiled, kissing her head as he walked by her to introduce
himself to Danielle. “Hi.” he pulled her in for a hug. “It’s nice to finally
meet you. I’m Lance.”
Danielle smiled,
“It’s nice to meet you too. I can’t believe I finally met the man who stole my
big sister’s heart. You’re a very lucky man you know. Lil’s the greatest.”
“Oh I know. From
what I’ve heard from Lily she feels the same way about you.”
“After our parents
died we were all each other had….up until now anyway. I’m happy Lily has found
someone who makes her happy. She deserves it.”
“So do you DanI. Who
knows, maybe you’ve already met him.” Lily winked at her sister, laughing as a
blush crept up her sister’s cheeks. Just then the doorbell rang.
“I’ll get it.”
Lance said as he made his way to the foyer. When he opened the door, he saw JC
standing there with two bouquets of roses. He looked so nervous, Lance couldn’t
stop the chuckle that escaped. “Hey man. You’re just in time. Dinner is ready.”
“Do you think the
flowers are too much?”
“I think they’re
beautiful. Why did you get her two different bouquets though? Why not just two
dozen in one?”
“Well, I didn’t
want to be too obvious, so I got one for Lily and one for Danielle.” JC cleared
his throat. “Is it still obvious?”
“JC calm down
dude. I promise it’ll be okay. I’m sure she will love her flowers and I know
Lily will appreciate your gesture just the same. Come on.”
“Do I look okay?”
he asked as he looked down at his outfit. He was wearing a pair of khaki slacks
with a navy blue button down shirt, gapped open just enough to see the top of
his muscular chest.
“I’m not one to
judge men, but I’m sure you’re fine. Let’s go, I’m starved.” When they entered
the dining room, the girls were already there, putting the food on the table.
“Hey sweetie. You
look so handsome tonight.” Lily winked over at him with a smile.
“Thanks Lily. You
both look beautiful tonight.” JC smiled at Danielle. He handed her the bouquet
of pink roses, and handed Lily the other bouquet of white ones. “I got you both
some flowers.”
Danielle blushed
and smiled as she took the flowers from his hand, “Thank you JC. That was very
sweet of you.”
“I just wanted to
bring you something beautiful.” he said, looking down at his hands before
meeting her gaze once more.
Lily looked over
at them for a moment, “Um, Lance will you help me in the kitchen for a minute.”
Lance looked at
her confused for a moment, then realized what she was trying to do. “Sure.
We’ll be back guys.”
JC and Danielle
just stood there for a moment, neither one really knowing what to say. Finally
their eyes met and they both laughed, breaking the uncomfortable silence that
had filled the room. “Is this your first trip to Florida?” he asked, not really
sure how else to start up a conversation with her.
“No, I’ve been
here before, but this is the first time I’ve met Lance. She wasn’t with him
last time I was here.”
“What do you do?’
“I’m a student at
NYU.”
“What are you
studying?”
“Pre-med. I want
to be a pediatrician.”
JC was amazed,
“Wow. I think that’s great. It takes a very special person to be a doctor. To
have that kind of compassion for people and that need to help them.”
“I just love
children. I want to have a bunch of my own someday.”
“I really want a
family too, but in a few years. I’m not quite ready for children, but I know
I’m ready to find the one I want to be the mother of my children one day.”
“What do you look
for in a woman?” she asked, not sure if she wanted to know the answer to her
own question. The woman he’s looking for may not be her.
JC took a deep
breath before beginning, “Well, she’s smart, has a great sense of humor,
ambitious. She’s someone who can live her own life and have her own career, but
she still wants to share her life with me. Someone I can see myself growing old
with.”
“I hope you find
her.”
“I think I already
have.” he whispered.
“Oh.” Danielle
looked down at her hands, not wanting JC to see the disappointment in her eyes.
JC leaned towards
her, gently lifting her chin so her eyes would meet his own. “I meant you
Danielle.”
Danielle was
speechless for a moment, “M…me?”
“I know we barely
know each other, but ever since I first saw you I just feel like you were the
one I was supposed to be with. I don’t expect you to feel the same way for me,
but I just wondered if you could give me a chance.”
Danielle smiled as
tears blurried her vision, “I would love to get to know you better JC. I felt a
connection to you too, but I was afraid you weren’t interested.”
“Why wouldn’t I be
interested? You’re beautiful, smart, everything I’ve ever wanted in a woman.”
“I hope you still
think that way a few months from now.”
“I have a feeling
I’ll feel this way for the rest of my life.” he whispered as he slowly leaned
forward, softly brushing his lips across hers.
She smiled up at
him, “I think I need to transfer down here as soon as possible.”
JC laughed, “I
think so too. I don’t think I’ll be able to stand you being that far away.”
“After a few
months you might change your mind.”
“No I won’t” he
said. Danielle looked deep into his eyes and knew he meant everything he had
just said.
“How can I feel
this way when we hardly know each other?”
“It’s
unexplainable. All I know it that I felt it at first sight.” JC leaned in and
kissed her lips once more. Somehow they knew they were where they were meant to
be and the time was right for both of them.
