Another good review

Another sports review by DAN, one of our key contributors. The Cleveland Indians have won some key games lately. They won 2 out of 3 against the White Sox. And now they're in the middle of a series against the Red Sox. If they want to stay on top of the Wild Card they have to win some of these games. In the first game the Indians had a rocky start by losing 8-6. The Indians' pitching staff was horrible. Chuck Finley did his normal, pitch good then have a bad inning. Steve Karsay pitched another bad game. Paul Shuey came in and gave up 2 runs before shutting down the Red Sox. The Indians' offense kept battling but they couldn't get enough runs to win it. The Indians' offense had to have played at least decent if they got 6 runs. In the second game of the series the Indians bounced back with a big win against the Red Sox. Bartolo Colon had a great game. He went 7 innings giving up 2 runs, 1 unearned because of an error by Roberto Alomar in the 5th inning and 1 on Jason Veratick's solo home run. Bartolo's fastball ranged from 95,98, and 100 mph. He even got one up to 101 mph. during the game. He struck out 7 during the 7 innings that he pitched. "I had a blister under the nail of my thumb, so I decided to go with my fastball," Colon said, "I'm glad I did, because I was feeling real strong tonight." "Bartolo was agressive tonight," the manager said, "and what I liked most was that he pitched inside, especially against left-handed batters. All season we've been trying to get him to be more active inside." "I was pitching like it was 0-0, even after we got the lead," said Colon, "This game was too important to fool around with." The Indians victory put them ahead of the A's by 1 and a half games. Manny was also a big factor in the win. He had a 34 run double in the 4th inning which opened up the game and in the 7th inning he had a solo home run.

"As usual, Manny was incredible," said David Segui, "He comes up in crucial situations and comes through day-in and day-out." Russel Branyon lead the Indians' scoring by hitting a 2 run homer in the 2nd inning off of Tomokazu Ohka. Tomokazu Ohka gave up 6 runs and 7 hits in 3 and a third innings. Branyon is still striking out a lot but he has hit 15 homers in 138 at-bats.

"If Russel just makes contact he's going to hit homeruns," Manuel said, "I told Russel I didn't want him getting too good too quick." Before the Indians go on a 12 day, 10 game trip to New York, Boston, and Kansas City they have 1 more thing to worry about. The Indians have to beat Pedro Martinez. They have lost 8 games to him and won 0. Pedro is 8-0 lifetime against the Indians. "Sooner or later we're gonna beat him," Manuel said, "He's beat us enough." A perfect review dan, keep up the good work. Home
