The Cleveland Indians have had a descent season so far. Due to a lot of injuries in the first half of the season they didn't too very good. At the All-Star break they were behind the Chicago White Sox in the race for the Central Division by 11 games. They were also losing the race for the Wild Card to the Oakland Athletics. The first half of the season the starting pitchers for the Indians were all hurt at one time. The Indians set a record with the most pitchers on a roster that they used in one season. Jaret Wright is still on the D.L. The Indians are trying to turn their season around. Since the All-Star Break they have gone 31 wins and 19 loses.
In the Indians last 13 games they are 9 wins and 4 loses. They have got on top of the Wild Card race and are ahead of the Red Sox by 2 games right now.
They are trying to gain more ground on the Chicage White Sox in their series of 3 games against them this weekend. (weekend of 9-8-00) Currently there are behind them 7 and a half games but they could pull within 4 and a half if they sweep them. The Indians have been playing pretty good games lately but they lost a tough game last night against the Devil Rays. If they would have won that game they would have swept the Devil Rays and they would only be down to Chicago 6 games. In the second half of the season so far the White Sox starting rotation has had trouble due to injuries. If the Indians somehow have a big winning streak and win the Central Division it would be their 6th year in a row winning it. They won it in '95, '96, '97, '98, and '99. But the Indians will have to play good baseball for the few weeks if they're looking to catch and pass the White Sox. These next 10 games will be crucial if the Indians are going to win the Central Division. In these few games you can gurantee the White Sox and the Indians will both
be playing their hearts out. The Chicago White Sox cannot relax and not worry about the Indians catching up to them. If Chicago does think it will be easy games you can expect to see the Indians take the first game. After that Chicago might wake up.---- The End
