Vox Python Guitar Strap
A remarkable piece of rock history.
John Lennon used the original on his Rickenbacker 325
when he played the Ed Sullivan shows of February 1964,
then gave it to Eric Clapton during his Cream days in 1967.
The original was auctioned by Sotheby's for $4,500 in recent years.
This 2 inch wide reproduction has armored chrome plates riveted to the heavy leather strap.
It's a unique-looking strap associated with rock's greatest icons.
John Lennon's original 1964 Vox Python Guitar strap recently sold for almost $15,000 at auction(!).
This guitar was actually the Les Paul Custom which is also called the '57 Black Beauty before its body shape and name where changed to the double cut-away SG style in 1961.
The original version had a high sculpted ultra-thin double horned (double cut-away) body shape which had no binding.
The guitar's name and body shape were changed when Les Paul,
who didn't particularly care for the SG body shape.
He had a disagreement which led to the suspension of their agreement in 1963.
The body is made of solid mahogany and is painted all white and has the same specs as the Black Beauty except for the body style and color (the black beauty was painted all black).
There were some that had cherry and black finishes but for the most part they were all white.
The guitar had 4 different variations which mainly centered on the bridge type.
It first had a Vibrola sideways tremolo, short Vibrola, the Bigsby short horseshoe tremolo and the Vibrola Long tremolo.
The 24.7 5 inch scale length neck was made of a single piece of mahogany and has the 1960 slim-taper neck profile.
The fretboard was made of ebony and had 22 frets with pearl block (rectangular) block inlays.
The neck joined the body at the 22nd fret which made it more susceptible to actually breaking away from the body. In 1966 this was fixed by moving the neck/body joint to the 19th fret which gave a stronger neck heel.
This reissue has the stronger neck heel. The headstock had the pearl diamond inlay and bell shaped truss rod cover.
The tuners are Vintage Tulip tuners which are based upon the Grover Rotomatic tuners.
The electronics consist of a CTS pots, bumble bee capacitors, 3-way pickup selector, and original wiring diagram.
The pickups used are of PAF vintage using Burstbucker model 1 and 2 pickups.
The neck pickup is a Burstbucker 2, the bridge pickup is a Burstbucker 1, and the middle pickups are a Burstbucker 1 as well.
These are wired slightly different that one might think.
The 3-way pickup selector is wired for Bridge, Bridge+Middle (out of phase), and Neck.
The main difference being when the pickup selector is in the middle position the pickups used are out of phase.
There were a number of other variations with the pickup wiring scheme.
