GFWC/Hyperion Club of Nelsonville

The GFWC/Hyperion Club of Nelsonville, Ohio, is a woman's literary/service club that was organized and federated in 1898. We are members of the General Federation of Women's Clubs, the oldest and one of the largest women's volunteer organizations in the world. We also hold membership in the GFWC/Ohio Federation of Women's Clubs. We are proud to be celebrating 110 years of continued membership in these organizations. And we welcome new members to the club at any time.

Our motto "Point Thine Arrow To The Sky" shows our long history of self- and community- improvement. While mainly a literary club, we have also at times undertaken projects to improve our community, such as helping with school levy drives, assisting with library book sales, and with an after school tutoring program at the public library. We have also donated equipment to the Nelsonville Public Library such as a microfilm reader and hardware for the display of artwork. We also support the various projects and scholarships of the GFWC/Ohio Federation of Women's Clubs and the Ohio Memorial Shrine.

We meet the second Saturday of the month September through May, excluding December and January, from 10 in the morning to 12 noon, usually in the meeting room of the Nelsonville Public Library. Membership is open to women over 18 and limited to a size of 25 active members and 10 associate members due to size limits of our homes and the meeting room.

Our small club has a long history of active involvement in our state, district and international organization, boasting several district chairmen, a district officer, two past state presidents, a past region president and two members of the international board of directors over the past 25 years.

If you are interested in this club, please contact Mrs. O. W. Davis at 740/753-2660 or email
