I knew the first time that I saw you

I wanted you to be mine

I remember the first time our eyes met

I knew it would take some time

I whispered your name so softly

You backed away from my caress

I knew instinctively from this

Your life had been such a mess

I took you home so gently

Some time this would take I knew

But it wasnt long before

I found a friend in you

You were always by my side

The minute my foot hit the ground

Ready, willing and waiting

To follow me I found

You were such a great friend

A mother and co worker too

I didnt think I would ever

Have face a day without you

But that time did come one day

The day we laid you to rest

The tears did fall so freely

My heart broke in my chest

Sometimes I feel you near me

And I reached down by my side

To pat your head and rub your chest
