Page 3 -- Aunt Marie's Photograph AlbumWhen my Aunt Marie (Marie Emma Jaffke Wagner, 1912-1991) passed away in December of 1991, we were fortunate in finding an old photograph album that had obviously been in her possession for many, many years. The pictures in the album almost all dated from the mid 1920s to early 1930s. They include Marie, some of her brothers and sisters (many of her twin sister Martha, and her brother Frank Jr.). There are also many friends -- some of whom we do not know today, others who have since passed away, and some who are still with us. In identifying these people and places, we were very fortunate in that on the majority of pictures Aunt Marie had written the names, dates and places where taken. St. Lucas Girls Athletic Association
Three more pictures from the trip to Luna Pier. Left: Helen Weit, Martha Jaffke, Dorothy Bork, and Charlotte Rietz; Center: Marie Jaffke; Right: Helen Weit.
Lakeside, MichiganThis next set of pictures are identified as being taken in Lakeside, Michigan. Left: Helen Weit; Center: Marie and Martha Jaffke; Right: Dorothy Bork.
Graduation? This set of pictures were probably taken on Graduation Day. The date written on them is May 26, 1929. All the girls are in their "Sunday Best", and holding bouquets of flowers.
Left: Martha Jaffke. Center: Martha Jaffke and Helen Weit. Right: Marie Jaffke, Irma Helset, Helen Weit, and Martha Jaffke.
Miscellaneous Pictures
Left: This picture of the twins, Marie and Martha, was taken in 1925, probably in their back yard on Morton Street in Toledo. Center and Right: Neither of these pictures were dated. From their dress styles, however, there is little doubt that they were taken in the late 1920s. In the center picture is Martha Jaffke, with her father (Frank Sr.) sitting in front of his house on Morton Street. The picture to the right shows Marie, Papa Frank Sr., and Martha. These two pictures appear to have been taken on the same day.
Left: Margaret Zanter, Marie and Martha Jaffke. Right: Margaret Zanter, Frank Jaffke Jr., and Martha Jaffke.
Left: Dolores Walker, daughter of Joseph and Anna (Jaffke) Walker. Center:Robert (Bobby) Jaffke, son of Frank and Margaret (Zanter) Jaffke. Right: Marilyn Jaffke, daughter of August (Augie) and Alice (Hurdlebrink) Jaffke. Location where pictures were taken is not identified.
These last two pictures are not of any family members or friends, but of the pastor of their church. From the inscription on the back of the picture of the left: Rev. Hugo Hamfeldt at the tomb of Dr. Martin Luther in the church where he nailed the 95 theses on the door (Wittenberg, Germany). The cross laid there by the Sunday School and Luther League of St. Lucas Lutheran Church, 1929. The inscription on the picture on the right: Rev. Hugo Hamfeldt at the monument of Dr. Martin Luther in Wittenbergh, Germany. The flower cross wa sent by the Sunday School and Luther League of St. Lucas Lutheran Church.
