The Blue Knights is a non-profit fraternal organization
consisting of active and retired law enforcement men and women who enjoy
riding motorcycles. The organization began in the spring of 1974 in Bangor,
Maine when Ed Gallant from the Bangor, Maine P.D. and Chuck Shuman from the
Brewer, Maine P.D. met with five other officers from the area and formed a
small, local motorcycle club. Soon, Blue Knight chapters were being formed
in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and beyond. With the addition of Canada,
and later Australia, the Blue Knights became an international organization. Ohio Chapter XVII was
chartered on June 1st, 1981 with 18 officers from Tuscarawas County. The
club officers were President Bob Flanagan, Vice President JR Biddle, and
Secretary/Treasurer Tim Beal. Of those 18 members, Bob Flanagan, JR Biddle,
and Ray Ross are current chapter members. Today our chapter has 31 members
encompassing Tuscarawas, Stark, Coshocton, and Guernsey Counties.
Our Chapter President is Sheldon
DeMattio. Sheldon has been president for quite a few years! He does an
excellent job as president and is the true essence of a Blue Knight! Shel truly
lives to ride! Sheldon never misses a meeting or a chapter ride! We are
lucky to have him as our President and a member of the Blue Knights!
