This organization
was founded in February 1983 under the name The Youngstown Association
of Black and White Men Together, joining the more than twenty BWMT chapters
that constituted the National Association of Black and White Men Together.
In the words of BWMT founder Mike Smith, this name was "chosen to make
a bold and public statement."
A growing sensitivity to
the diversity of local communities has led many chapters to adjust their names
to reflect their evolving responses to the marginalization and fragmentation of
minority groups. Men of All Colors Together and People of All Colors Together
are the most common new designations; the National Association and many local
chapters retain the original name, BWMT.
