37th Ohio Volunteer Infantry Re-enacting Unit

The 37th OVI Civil War Reenactment Unit is a fairly small sized unit. We are always looking for new recruits. Most of our events are based in the Ohio and Indiana area. We are a family oriented unit and most of the events we attend have several activities for women and children to participate in.

Even though we may be veteran reenactors now; we all started out with no clue of what to do. As a new recruit joins our unit, our members are more than willing to be of any kind of help that we can be to make your reenacting experience as enjoyable as possible. If someone does not know an answer to your question they can point you to someone who does know. Asking a question may save you time, trouble, and expenses down the road.

We try to be as authentic as possible in bringing the lives of those who endured the American Civil War, to the spectators at events we attend. It is important that we be as authentic as we can be in our impression of what it was like to be a soldier in the Union Army during the 1860's. We would rather have the spectators go away thinking about how we slept, ate, drilled, fought using civil war tactics, and wore the wool uniforms; just like the soldiers who fought during the Civil War. Than to hav the public to go away thinking a Civil War soldiers life was easy because they drank out of pop cans, ate pop tarts or candy bars, or slept in campers.

Our civilian reenactors consist of our spouses and children. They are involved in cooking, sewing, and other various aspects of the 1860's civilian lifestyles. There areplenty of activities for children at some of the events we attend. We welcome family members to join, because we feel they are an important part of this unit; and can be the backbone and support of the unit.

The original 37th Ohio was made up primarily of men of German descent. You don't have to be of German descent to join our unit.

We do not descriminate against race, creed, color, religion, nationality, or sex.

The 37th O.V.I. participates in living histories, battle re-enactments, historical events, school programs, and national re-enactments. To be able to carry a weapon on the field with the 37th Ohio a member must be at least 16 years of age. Any Members under 18 years of age must have a parent involved or be sponsored by a current adult member.
