Shanebuck's is essentially a state of mind.  From the press release to NCTE-talk:

Shanebuck's President-For-Life Shane Marshall explains:

"I was sitting at my desk at home, working on planning English 12.  It was
2:30 AM. I had slept from 5:30 PM to 12:30 AM, then gotten up to work.  I
was focused. I was calm, working on the smaller tasks that made up the pile
of stuff I had to do, rather than worrying about the pile itself.  I stood
up to go to the computer to look for some information on the 'net.
Classical music played from the speakers.  The steam was rising from my Earl
Grey.  I looked around the room and decided that, in spite of the earlier
grand plans that I and several NCTE-talk associates had made for converting
the lower story of my house to Shanebuck's, THIS room was truly Shanebuck's.
 To be more precise, the focus and calmness I was achieving, amidst the
storm that has been my first year of teaching, was Shanebuck's."
