Generally speaking, 2003 was highlighted with four major events. The first of which had to be the President’s Day weekend snowstorm. The snow total record for my station was broken when 20.5” of snow was measured between the 14’th and the 17’th of the month.
Second would be the damaging thunderstorm winds that blew through the area on August 26’th. Though my station only recorded a peak gust of 36 that day, much higher gusts moved through ½ mile northeast of me when the top half of a huge tree was snapped off and landed on a 2 car garage, totaling it, and doing minor damage to the house beside it. Several other smaller trees were damaged or destroyed.
Third would have been the remnants of Hurricane Isabel as it move just east of here into western Pennsylvania. I measured 2.29” of rainfall in that 24 hour time span, spotted a beautiful double rainbow on the 18’th of September as the high and mid-level clouds filtered into the area, and captured a beautiful sunset photo, which turned out being chosen to grace the page of the Weather Matrix 2004 calendar.
The final event would be the evening of November 12’th when an F-2 tornado moved through west central Tuscarawas County, through Dover township and into a portion of New Philadelphia. It was the first time I had ever seen any type of tornado damage in person.
