I have a Canon
EOS Elan, with a 50mm f/1.4 prime, a 35-105mm f/4.5-5.6 zoom, and a 100-300mm f/4.5-5.6 zoom. I get
the most use out of the 35-105, and wish I could afford Canon's faster version. I haul it all around in
a small LowePro bag, which I like very much. I have a Slik U212 tripod, but find I don't use it much. My subjects tend to move around too much too fast. |
Overall, I am very satisfied with my gear. However the on-camera flash causes terrible red-eye problems,
particularly when shooting at a significant distance, regardless of Canon's claims to the contrary. I shoot Fuji's consumer 800 film exclusively, as I prefer its color reproduction over Kodak's and I need the speed combined with tight grain. My next equipment purchase will likely be a serious flash unit. I rented a SunPak handle-mount flash for a day to shoot my sister-in-law's wedding, and really loved it. The results were great and it was easy to handle and use. |
| My wife and my mother chipped in to buy me a Fujifilm MX-1200 1.3 MegaPixel digital camera in 2003. It is the digital equivalent of a "point and shoot", and is ideal as a low-end introduction to digital photography. It produces 1280x1024 images of high quality, but the internal flash has very limited range and there is no shoe for an external flash, no USB interface, and no zoom lens. | That said, it is relatively inexpensive and very small -- much more practical for taking along on a family visit to a zoo or amusement park than lugging my Canon and lenses around. It fits nicely in a "fanny pack" with room to spare. I bought a 32M SmartMedia card to replace the 8M card that came with it, and can now shoot about 40 pictures in its highest quality mode before having to delete anything. |

| I now have a UMAX Astra 1200S scanner, which will enable me to add many, many more photographs to this web site as I find the time. I have many photographs of India, Fallingwater, Hoover Dam, and the Nevada desert, as well as lots more of my family and various concerts. | I took all the photographs below. Most can be found more in context elsewhere on this site. Click on a small image ("thumbnail") to see a larger version. Hold your mouse over an image to see a short description of it. |
These are some of my photos that I have geocoded and uploaded to Flickr.com.
