In this world of endless labor we work eight days a week,
And seek to find a better way just to try to make ends meet;
But what He gave won't hold a candle to what waits on Heaven's shore,
And when our time down here is over we'll receive our great reward.
I'm getting richer all the time,
I'm laying up my treasures in my mansion up on high;
Well I don't have great possessions and earthly wealth may not be mine,

Down here I struggle every day I'm barely getting by,
Every time I get a little ahead I fall a little bit farther behind;
Well sometimes I feel so poor indeed and helpless and alone,
Then I think of what God has in store up there in my Heavenly home.
