My People

By: Johnathan Davis

My people must be the strongest humans alive. We've fought through slavery, persecution and still survived. We were taken from our homes to the western land. We were forced to pick cotton and clean houses for the white man. We were treated like animals in a heard. Some were sold, traded, but our patience never stirred. They took away our names and our lives. There was one thing they couldn't take, and that is our pride. We fought through a hundred years of slavery. Then we were lynched and hung from a tree. Through all this pain a misery. We still kept rising steadily. This still isn't the end of our long journey. We had to overcome predjudice, discrimination, and stupidity. We never once asked for anyones pity. Our journey continues into the next millenium. We've had leaders such as Rosa Parks, Malcolm X, and Harriet Tubman. Who will be the next man or woman to stand out. To lead My People to the place Dr. King dreamed about. You never know it could be you or maybe even me. There is one thing for sure, we will finish successfully.
