Pyaji (Fried Onion)

Ingredients:(Serves 4)

  • Onion (sliced) 2 cups
  • Green chili (chopped) 1 tbsp.
  • Besan (Bengal Gram Flour) 4 tbsp.
  • Oil for shallow fry
  • Baking powder (optional) ½ tsp.
  • Salt to taste

Procedure:

Mix all ingredients with a little water. The consistency of the mix shall be as thick as cake mix.

Heat oil in a pan. Take small portions of the mix using your fingers and pour in oil. Pour as many portions as you can manage. Fry till deep brown. Remove from oil when done.

You can have it with rice & dal, or khichdi. You can also have Pyaji as an appetizer.


Nanz's Tips:
  • Chopped coriander leaves are sometimes added to the besan mix, which gives it a totally different flavor.
