Money! It's a hit.
After many years of pondering exactly what is the value of money? It finally occured to me, money is the power to control other's actions against their will. Although it may seem like a silly question, consider that the world has been off the gold standard for a generation. So currency no longer represents a precious metal or any other commodity. Most people don't like their jobs yet we all work for that precious paycheck. Why do we torture ourselves so? Sounds like another silly question but people lived for thousands upon thousands of years rarely, if ever, seeing any form of currency. All that is truely required for human beings to live is air, water, food and shelter. The modern corporate empires would have you believe that you can not live without money. And using their politician puppets, they create laws so that you can't. They tell us slogans like, "money makes the world go round", "money talks", "time IS money". The last time I checked the world was spinning fine from inertia left over from it's formation and has been since long before anyone ever came up with the concepts of currency or credit. I've never heard so much as a peep from a dollar bill and I'm pretty sure time is a dimension, not a dime.
As I pondered these ideas another thought took me, there are five core industries in the world that are the direct source of ALL of the major problems we face as a species. Poverty is rampant among the vast majority of the world's population. Pollution continues to increase at an exponetial rate. Crimes and war seem inevitable. All of these problems and more are the direct result of corporate greed. It has been written, "for the love of money is the root of all evil". I disagree with that statement, however, if you change the phrase "love of money" to the word greed it makes perfect sense to me and even explains crimes of passion as a form of greed for another's affection. What are these industries? In my opinion the five worst offenders (but certainly not the only ones) are the petroleum industry, the chemical industry, the pharmecutical industry, the insurance industry and the banking industry (including stock and bond markets). The first three are closely related and the last two are loosely related but all five work in collusion with each other and with governments to create massive problems on a global scale. The guy that dies with the most toys doesn't win the game, he simply dies and rots.
By studying history and statistical projections of the immediate future, I noticed a disturbing pattern of "progress" toward emminent system wide failure. Not only a failure of the global economy but also a failure of the very biosphere ALL life on this planet absolutely depends on for survival. These corporations can be thought of as dinosaurs and the comet that is about to extinguish them is already en route toward impact! The best that any individual can hope for at this point in time is to NOT be underfoot when these dinosaurs fall. I'm not advocating everyone quit their jobs and hide in caves waiting for the "end of time". Knowledge is power and knowing what's ahead may help some to prepare with skills necessary for real survival. I'm not talking about becoming a survivalist nutcase that builds a bunker and stores canned foods and crackers. I'm talking about knowing how and where to find water and purify it, knowing how to find and grow food, knowing how to build a shelter. My hope is that the survivors of the coming catastrophies will learn from past mistakes and NOT base their society on greed! We were never meant to conquer or subdue nature, we are a part of the nature of this world. We need to learn to live with nature in harmony and aquire the wisdom to use the knowledge and technoligies we have.
