Ex-library Books
Many of the books we sell are retired from public libraries. When it is stated that a book is "ex-library with usual markings", that may include all or some of the following:
- labels on the spine
- stamps on the endpapers, title page and internal pages
- stamps along edges of pages when book is closed
- shelving label on spine
- pocket on either front or back endpaper
- notations on title page in regards to shelving
Terminology When Describing Book Condition
- As New-The book is in perfect condition, looks as though it just came off the press. Dust jacket if issued will be in same condition.
- Fine - Condition is almost as good as "Like New" but not quite as sharp. No defects will be present.
- Very Good Will show some wear but no tears of any kind and minor soiling will be noted. Dust jacket may have minor chips or wear but these will always be noted.
- Good - The book shows average wear and tear. All defects will be noted, soiling, tears, writing, etc. Jacket may have tears, chips, rubbing or soiling but all problems will be noted.
- Fair - The book is worn but has all pages, maps, or plates present. May be missing endpapers; half-title, etc. Dust jacket would show heavy wear with serious defects. Once again, all defects will be noted.
- Reading Copy - The book is in poor shape and only redeeming quality is that the full text is present.
