(09-NOV-23) - Rare Civil War USN Cartridge box For Colt Navy Revolver - A very scarce accoutrement and this one interesting as it stll has the interior implement compartment which is nearly never seen intact as the navy removed them from 95% of the boxes immediately after the war and reissued the boxes. The box has a 6 inch wide front flap with “USN” embossed into the leather. As you can see there are four slits in the front flap where an insignia was once affixed. Inside flap is marked “U.S.N.Y./ BOSTON”. The belt loop on the back is a modern restoration, and there are numerous scuffs and scrapes . The latch tab is original and unbroken. The side of the box has a couple small holes drilled, purpose unknown, possibly from earlier mounting on a display board. Also visible on the back is evidence of later belt loops having been installed decades ago and then removed. In any event, a great display example that is restored to CW appearance and which won’t cost you $800. $225.00

(09-NOV-24) - Serial Number 12 Bacon Pocket Model Revolver - This gun has a 5 inch octagonal barrel, with a round cylinder with a 5 panel sporting scene. This is the First Model which was also known as their “excelsior model”. Less than 1000 of these were made and this gun has the serial number of “12” May well have been made the first week of production in 1858. The frame bears the nice standard factory engraving, and overall the gun is in VG+ condition. The action functions but is a little gummy. The cylinder does not automatically rotate when the gun is cocked indicating a weak or missing hand spring or hand. This can be repaired, but I am leaving that task to you to keep the price low. . A very handsome gun $575.00

(09-NOV-25) - Near Mint - Extra Fine Cap Box by “S.H. Young Co” - This is a super solid cap box, with the government inspector stamp on the front flap, and the Young Co makers stamp on the inside flap. Great 100% original and intact in nearly new unissued condition... just showing the lightest of handling. Still has the nipple pick inside, but not the wool. The belt loops are in wonderful condition, and there is a “D” stamped into the rear. Rates a 9+++ on a 1 to 10 scale. $250.00

(09-NOV-26) - Historic, KIA, Bible - One of THE BEST Civil War Bibles I Have Owned: A solid, thick Bible embossed on the front cover in gilt “Company Library” - This book is almost 2.5 inches thick and measures 4 x 6 inches across the cover. The book was presented to Captain L. C. Counsellor. He was commissioned into Co. “H” 69th Ohio Volunteer Infantry and he was Killed on 1/2/1863 at the Battle of Stones River, TN. Inside the book are a few newspaper clippings, and several notes. The book has one of THE BEST inscriptions I have ever seen in a Bible. It was presented by Captain Counsellor’s friend, Judge Bierce who was a Judge in Circleville, Oh. There is a wonderful note in pen that says “ February 22nd 1862 General George Washington’s Birthday. May the stars and stripes wave as long as these pages shall be folded in these lids. Capt. L.C.C”. The fact that the cover is embossed “Company Library” makes me believe that the Bible was gifted to Company H after Captain Counsellor was killed in action. A most historic and touching Civil War Bible. This Bible has the whole spine covered with cellophane tape to keep the covers on, this done by an earlier owner. This can be left as is or the tape can be removed and the spine repaired by a competent book binder, but I will leave that decision to you. An incredibly historic Bible.... $450.00

(09-NOV-27) - Superb CW Officer's Sword / Brass Guard Peterson 75 / Minty Blade: Here is a darn rare sword. It is the Peterson figure 75 with the brass guard and brass mounted steel scabbard. While the iron guard and plain steel examples are quite common these examples with brass furniture are quite rare. The condition is excellent. The blade retains 95% mint, frosty, factory luster with rich etched eagle, US, and floral sprays. The blade is nearly new, and is signed with Clauberg Solingen maker's logo. The brass mounted steel scabbard is likewise fine with just one small dent. Interestingly, the brass snap-clips from the officer's sword belt are still attached to the rings on the scabbard. There is a slight bend in the quillon otherwise near perfect. A truly excellent example with stellar blade. $2,200.00

(09-NOV-28) - US FOOT OFFICER’S SWORD WITH DEEPLY CAST HIGH RELIEF POMMEL CAP AND GUARD: One of the most striking and attractive foot officer’s swords I have found. What makes this one so beautiful is the deep bronze patina on the brass and the extra deep high relief casting and highly refined oak leaf and floral designs in the guard and on the pommel cap. These elements are really striking and head & shoulders above most other officers swords. The sword is a regulation CW foot officer’s sword complete with the original brass mounted leather scabbard. The guard and brass scabbard mounts are outstanding with rich undisturbed age patina. The scabbard is complete and whole with just some expected wear on the leather finish. The blade is steel grey and profusely acid etched with US patriotic and military motifs. The blade shows expected wear but no abuse. The pommel cap screams “quality” with the extra high relief oak leaf patterns, and the guard likewise is a casting done by a true artist. Here is your chance for a much better example than your friend owns. $1,250.00

(09-NOV-29) - Model 1816 Flintlock Pistol / percussion conversion - This gun has a 9 1/16 inch barrel, with the brass blade sight built into the double barrel band. Overall very good condition but no markings visible except for a US on the barrel. The conversion is of the french style with the cone installed directly into the barrel. All the steel is light brown patina, the stock is very handsome and very fine except for a tiny spot of wood filler present on the back side near the escutcheon plate. On the breech, “US” is still visible. The ramrod is ancient but likely a replacement. Overall VG. $795.00

(09-NOV-30) - Johnson model 1836 single shot conversion pistol - This US Model 1836 was converted to percussion from the original flintlock. This gun is marked on the lock “US/R. JOHNSON/MIDDn CONN/ 1838” and has been converted to percussion with a french style nipple in barrel. The breech has the markings “JH/P” and I can still make out an oval from a cartouche on the wood. The mainspring is a bit weak, but fully functioning. The wood is solid VG condition, with some areas near the breech that are a bit worn from use. A solid functioning conversion priced friendly $675.00

(09-NOV-31) - Model 1836 Martial Flint Pistol Converted to Percussion. .54 cal. smooth bore. Complete and mechanically perfect. The lock markings are as follows; “US/ R. Johnson/ Midd, Conn/ 1843”.There are two visible cartouches in the stock opposite the lock. The metal is a pleasing plum brown color and the wood is a deep brown walnut. There is a crack in the stock near the metal butt cap and a 1” crack running from the front of the escutcheon to the barrel. These are minor and are mentioned only for accuracy’s sake . Another bargain priced antique.... $695.00

(09-NOV-32) - Wonderful Remington New Model Police Revolver 38 Rimfire - This is a great cowboy gun. This is a factory conversion of the percussion “police” to a .38 rimfire cartridge. The conversion was done in the days immediately following the end of the Civil War. This model was made in different barrel lengths, and this one is a 3.5 inch barrel. The walnut grips are in Fine+ condition and the barrel and frame are likewise fine with a generous amount of factory blue finish. The barrel retains perhaps 30% factory blue. Barrel legend is crisp. Perfect mechanically and very smooth action. A very fine mid size revolver created to compete with the colt pockets and colt police models. Perfect to display with early Wild West cowboy and gambler artifacts, and very affordable... $695.00

(09-NOV-33) - Extra Fine Long Barrel Whitney Pocket Revolver - This has a serial number in the 23,000 range produced in the early 1860’s. The has extra Fine walnut grips, a 6 inch octagonal barrel with clear markings and remnants of good blue. The cylinder scene is likewise extra Fine condition with an eagle, lion, and shield with “Whitneyville” on it, and a naval scene. These scenes were never very deep, so are usually gone.. this one is really nice and very legible. There is good factory blue in the protected areas, and a touch of case color on the trigger. Really a fine gun overall. One of the best Whitney pocket revolvers I’ve owned... A really good one.... $1350.00

(09-NOV-34) - Moore Seven Shooter Revolver -Seven shot, 32 caliber rimfire cartridge revolver. This has a 4 inch octagonal barrel in near fine condition with about 30% of the silver plating remaining on the frame. The barrel and cylinder have delicate plum patina with wispers of finish in protected areas. The grips have carving on both sides, 4 notches on the left (undoubtedly for dead rebs or indians or something else romantic), and some initials on the right that I believe read “RNW NY”. These revolvers were made between 1861-63 and quite a few were purchased by union soldiers for the war. This gun’s serial number is 5157. One of the features of the Moore that makes it so appealing is that each of the guns produced was factory engraved in the best quality. A real fine CW sidearm... $695.00

The lock is marked with a crown in front of the hammer, and “TOWER” behind the hammer. Overall VG++ condition with a tiny inconsequential stress line in the wood near the escutcheon plate opposite the lock. This is a sleek looking pistol, 150+ years old, all original, mechanically perfect, and damn cheap priced at $495.00

(09-NOV-38) - Officer’s Eagle Head “Artillery” Sword 1820-1840 - A pretty bone handled sword with carved fluted grip and handsome cast brass American eagle pommel. Brass guard has 5-ball decoration, and ball decorations on the hilt. The old timer sword guys have referred to these swords with five balls as “artillery” models. That may well be the case but since half the eagle pommel swords we find have this 5-ball design I am personally dubious that they were all intended strictly for artillery. That would mean that the militia could take the field with hundreds of cannon but only a handful of intantry or mounted troops. In any event, it is a great early American Eagle-Head with 28 inch blade that is 1 1/8 inches wide. The blade was once blued with gold decorations, and now just has some faint gold remaining on the blade engraving. One chip broken off on the grip. The scabbard is missing the drag, but has a nice original throat. $625.00
