09 - DEC - 001 - Ames M1860 Cavalry Saber - This is a great affordable 1864 dated Ames Cavalry saber. The grips are ultra appealing, with original wire and great leather. The brass guard has a lovely untouched toasted almond patina. We have pretty strong markings on the ricasso. This sword is paired with a nice matching scabbard that has the most minor ding about 12 inches up from the drag. The scabbard is aged to a chocolate attic brown, and looks fitting with grip and guard. The blade is smooth with no pitting, and only 3 minor nicks ( they don’t detract from the look of the piece one iota, but we like to be as accurate as possible. $750.00

09 - DEC - 002 - 1862 Ames Musician sword with leather scabbard - Standard Ames Musician sworn with a VG blade. The ricasso is stamped “US / AHC / 1862” and the reverse has the Ames Banner firm marking. The guard has the inspectors initials stamped “AHC” and has a nice patina. The scabbard is original, but does have a repair about 7 inches below the throat. The drag looks great, and has the inspector initials “GKC”. $295.00

09 - DEC - 004 - Fine Condition Emerson & Silver NCO sword w/ metal scabbard - A VG+++ sword with good clean markings. “Emerson & Silver / Trenton / NJ” and “US / DFM / 1863” on the ricasso, and DFM on the drag and knuckle bow. The blade has no nicks or dings, and just a touch of age stain here and there... NO pitting. The metal scabbard is very nice with just a few small chips of paint missing, but no dents. The drag has a few dings from actualy war time use. Over all this is a solid VG to Fine condition sword that would be a nice display piece in any collection. These Emerson and Silver swords are highly sought as they have the steel scabbards as opposed to the leather sheaths on Ames and Roby swords. The leather sheaths break with the slightest touch, these steel scabbards are good forever $525.00

NOTE I Can supply a loose scabbard for the above sword for $275.00 If you have an Emerson and Silver that needs a scabbard, we have it on hand this week

09 - DEC - 003 - Militia Light Artillery Saber from early 1800’s - This sword has a 28 inch curved blade with a squared back. The grip is carved wood which has been covered with leather and is in VG+ condition. These grips were never wrapped with wire when the sword was manufactured. Backstrap and all metal parts of the hilt are made of brass and have a dark ochre patina. The scabbard is made of leather that has dried out and shrunken a little, but the sword still goes in and out pretty smoothly. The scabbard has all of the brass mounts, but is missing one of the hangers. The Brass scabbard mounts all have a dark rich patina that has never been dinked with. Quite a fine old sword. $595.00

09 - DEC - 005 - US Armory Springfield Mass. 1860 Staff & Field sword - This is the rare one... the ‘60 staff sword made at the national armory. The blade is beautifully etched with US, eagle, military motifs, and best of all “US/ARMORY/SPRINGFIELD/MASS”. This has the diamond cross section shape blade. The grip is excellent with all the original leather and twisted wire wrap. This sword is solidly built and is in top notch condition. Scabbard is nickeled steel and is equally fine. The guard and scabbard mounts retain 90% of the original gold gilt finish. The drag is stamped with inspector’s initials “S W P”. These Springfield made swords are the MOST sought of all the post Civil War 1860 staff makers and this is a really top end example. These are the ones carried by the US Regulars... $595.00

09 - DEC - 006 - Model 1860 Staff & Field Sword by Horstmann : Very Good condition, and quite an early example likely dating to late 1860s or early 1870s. The blade is etched deeply with “US”, eagle, and military motifs. There is a bit of tarnish on it and it has the early style diamond cross section shape. Signed at the ricasso is “HORSTMANN/PHILADELPHIA/NEW YORK”. The ray skin grip is 98% intact just showing a few wear spots on high areas. The scabbard is in very good condition with a nice uniform age brown patina on the steel and nice yellow brass mounts. No dents or dings. These 1860 pattern swords were used from the Civil War through the Indian Wars and into the Spanish American War. Very few were made in the 1860s... a few more in the 1870s..... and loads were made in the 1880s and 1890s. This sword is very close to Civil War production but I am confident that it post dates Lee’s surrender by a few short years. A very nice early specimen... $495.00

09 - DEC - 007 - Attic Fine M-1840 Heavy Cavalry Saber aka Wristbreaker: A very nice example of the cavalry weapon used by troopers both north and south. This is an unmarked German import. The leather grip and twisted wire wrap are very good. The 3-branch brass guard is likewise very nice with rich bronze patina and a slight bend in the quillon. The blade is good grey steel with crisp edges and no edge nicks. The scabbard is about perfect... rich brown age patina and no dents. The scabbard looks just like a US made example with no rivets or screws at the throat. This is a top drawer early war cavalry saber in much better than average condition. $595.00

09 - DEC - 008 - Model 1860 Cavalry Saber - This is an Ames saber with no scabbard. Markings are all but worn away on the ricasso, only part of a “U” is visible. But on the pommel we see the inspectors’ marks of “CEW” and “OFEW”. There is also a “4” stamped on the pommel, and on the guard. The grips are good with original wire wraps. Dark brown original leather washer is solidly in place. The blade is a bit nicked up and is missing just a touch of the tip. No pitting and the blade has a pleasing smoky grey finish. $375.00

09 - DEC - 009 - Attic Extra Fine Tiffany & Co. Heavy Cavalry Saber: A top notch specimen of the elusive Tiffany & Co. signed wristbreaker saber. This one is attic brown and very solid. The 3-branch steel guard is perfect. The leather and twisted wire grip are likewise fine… wire perfect, leather just having a few spots of wear. The blade is likewise very nice, steel grey, signed on the hilt with PDL mark as well as Tiffany& Co New York. Scabbard equally fine. Tight, solid, heavy, and very appealing. $850.00

09 - DEC - 010 - Bullet Struck Civil War Cavalry Saber - The Real Deal: Here is one darn interesting weapon. A regulation 1860 light cavalry saber in extra fine condition that was absolutely and unquestionably struck by a 58 caliber minie ball. The condition is extra fine. The leather and twisted wire grip are excellent as is the brass 3-branch guard. This is a German (Solingen) import sword and is unsigned on the blade. The scabbard has two screws securing the throat in place. The most exciting element of this cavalry weapon is the unmistakable strike by a bullet where the drag meets the lower body of the scabbard. See the pictures which clearly show this bullet damage. The bullet struck the tip of the scabbard with great force causing a severe dent and bend which molds perfectly to the contour of a minie ball. I am sure the veteran treasured this battle scarred weapon all his life. I only wish he had taken the time to write a note telling the story. You will be well pleased with this superb piece of Civil War battle history. $895.00

09 - DEC - 012 - Imported NCO sword Sold by Horstman & Sons - Classic foreign made sword marketed to the US military. The blade is in superb condition, with absolutely no nicks or pitting whatsoever. There are no markings on the guard or any of the brass on the sword. The scabbard is a VG+ leather with bright original brass fittings. The leather is getting a touch weak near the drag, but overall is very solid. The leather washer is compacted, and half gone, but is original. This is a great import at a great price. $470.00

09 - DEC - 013 - Here is a Really Cool Relic CW Revolver - A Barn Found, Rust Brown Starr Double Action Army Revolver - This gun is about as appealing a relic as I have found. It has the charm of an early battlefield pick-up and still functions as a revolver. The metal is overall dark rust brown patina with pitting and scale. The edges are crisp on the metal and the wood, but the whole piece has a uniform brown rust patina. The actions works just fine, but the loading lever is rusted closed. It could be loosened with a little work, but we wanted to leave it just like we found it. The bottom of the grip has an oval brass plate affixed and this has been there a LONG LONG time. I don’t know where else you can find a complete Civil War military revolver with this much appeal for such a low price. The serial number is buried in the rust. Maybe you can make it out. A cool looking relic revolver that we know was really there. Where else can you get a real civil war pistol this cheap. $465.00
