Daniel's Testimony

Daniel's Testimony

On April 8 1977, I was born in Minnesota into a loving, Christian family. When I was 2 years old my family and I moved to North Dakota where we lived for 6 years. My sister, Sarah, was born on October 23 1979,shortly after we moved to North Dakota.

When I was 8 years old I started having nightmares about Satan and hell. After comforting me night after night, my mom, Sandy, told me how I could defeat Satan and go to heaven rather than hell by asking Jesus into my heart and becoming a Christian, so one night I prayed with my mother and accepted Jesus into my heart and life.

In 1986, my dad, Paul, got tired of the cold, and we moved to Thomson, GA. When I was 12 years old I decided that it was time to make my profession of faith public and was baptised. I was very shy and insecure growing up, and it wasn't until my tenth grade year when my church hired Royce Railey as our full time youth minister, that I started to become more involved with the youth group and a lot more outgoing. Royce convinced me to start playing guitar and later bass guitar in our youth praise band. He also brought out and developed my leadership qualities by giving me diferent responsibilities and even allowing me to lead a couple of services.

In 1995, my sister, a friend of ours, and I were driving to the Dairy Queen after church. I was driving and decided to take a different route than I usually did. The road was dark and had some tight corners. While going around one of these corners, I lost control of the car; we ended up upside down in the ditch. My sister died at the hospital. She was only 15 years old. Our friend, B.C., had some minor injuries, and I fractured my hip.

Royce and the youth group at my church really rallied around B.C., my family, and me. With out them, my loving family, and the knowledge that Sarah was in heaven, I do not know what I would have done.

That summer, I felt the call to the youth ministry. I knew the Lord was calling me to be there for young people the way Royce was there for me.

I went to Brewton-Parker College where I majored in business management and met my future wife, Heather, through a mutual friend. On September 6, 1997, Heather and I were married.

In 1998, I started ministering as a part time youth minister at First Baptist Rochelle. After I graduated from Brewton-Parker in 1999, FBC Rochelle ordained me and hired me fulltime as their youth and activities director. As of December, 1999, I have been ministering with Rentz Baptist Church as their youth and children's minister.
