NABA Conference Labeled Inspiring

Students, I wanted to share a wonderful experience with you concerning the National Association of Black Accountants (NABA). The local chapter here at Ohio State recently attended the regional NABA conference in Milwaukee, WI.

From takeoff, I knew this would be a trip to remember. Foremost, our hotel was also the site of the conference. Then, we mingled with corporations and organizations that viewed all members of NABA as potential employees. Upon arrival, each member had received a specific list of companies who were interested in interviewing them. Some of the companies were General Electric, Ernst & Young, and Arthur Anderson.

The succeeding days were filled with interviews and seminars. The seminars were geared to enlighten and encourage students in dealing with situations that are typical of the business environment, like entrepreneurial issues, investments, time management, study habits and leadership skills. Many students received positive feedback from the interviews, and some even had the chance to interview with companies whom they chose. Then, the participants attended a scholarship luncheon, where OSU student Munirah Ahmad of NABA received a scholarship. Her presentation was follwed by a dance, which gave NABA members from colleges across the country to mingle.

Another convenient thing was the mall, located next to the hotel. Many OSU members sure took advantage of that luxury!

I enjoyed the whole experience, and it was definitely worth my time. I took away a lot of valuable information and was able to plant some seeds of opportunity for the future. I took pride in being with a group of motivated, intelligent, talented students who shared the same goals and ambitions as myself. I encourage anyone who is considering finance or accounting to participate in the events sponsored by the NABA at Ohio State. All are welcome, as we continue to build, pursue and amend our chapter's goals and objectives.
