Diehard Wu-Tang and east coast rap fans got a treat last month, when Method Man and Redman performed at Ohio State. The concert was held at the Newport Music Hall Apr. 18.
The club, located on High Street, has featured many alternative artists, but this concert was only the second featuring hip-hop artists. The first was Ja Rule in January.
Opening for Method Man and Redman were the Outsidaz, an up-and-coming group. They recently released "Rah," which plays regularly on Black Entertainment Television. Subsequently, Wu-Tang's Ghostface Killa graced the stage, and rapped some cuts off his latest album, Supreme Clientele.
Then, after much anticipation, the main course was served. Red and Meth performed all their popular songs, like Meth's "You're All I Need" and Red's "I'll Bee Dat," as well as songs as a group, like "Y.O.U." and "Da' Rockwilder."
At the concert, Newport's promoter, the Boogieman, stressed the importance of unity and peace. "If we can act like we got some sense, then more rap artists like Red and Meth will come to Columbus to the Newport to party with us!" he exclaimed.
Because of past problems, some thought there would be tension between either the rappers or the fans, or both, but there was none, which was a progressive step if the Newport Music Hall wants to hold more hip-hop oriented events.
Currently, Method Man and Redman are still promoting their latest album, Blackout! which features the two aforementioned songs, plus 17 others.
