The Issue: Racism

By Adam Guy

This issue is like an unsolved case,
That strangely enough is always misplaced.
Again and again it will always come up,
But is as useless as a closet with the door always shut.

Forever and always the problem will occur,
But silence and violence is never deserved.
White sheets and fire was one side's answer,
While Martin stayed peaceful, Malcolm influenced panthers.

We continued to shout, "We shall overcome,"
But the dream and the dreamer were killed by a gun.
Black souls were crushed by the death of MLK,
While Ku Klux Klan rallies occur to this day.

The issue's still here but is never addressed,
People see it but never confess.
And until reality is brought to light,
It continues to be an unbearable fight.

People always will say, "I don't even see it."
So if you deny it, you might even be it.
If you realize the issue could just decrease,
What's so frightening about living in peace?

The issue continues to come up, but then goes away,
"It can't be that bad," most people will say.
But if for one day people could walk in our shoes,
They'd know why we boycott and invented the blues.

And still today the issue hardly gets mention,
So we still sit in the back seat, our starting position.
For until some people begin to take notice,
We'll still work twice as hard, and have to stay focused.

So the issue continues, but will never be solved,
For the issue's followers will die for the cause.
