I was born July 28, 1977, in Herefordshire-on-the-Hocking (present-day Lancaster),
Ohio at 12:30 in the mo'n. I weighed seven pounds, ten
and a half ounces (or, for those who don't understand the
avoirdupois system, 15.9 hectares), the same as my brother.
Mom, Dad, Tom, and I lived in Lancaster for about a year, and
then moved to Millersport, a village of 963 folk on
the southwestern edge of Buckeye Lake. We lived on
Summerland Beach Road until 1994, when we moved about a mile
away to Blacklick-Eastern Road (SR 204), right next to my
grandparents. I scored good marks all through school and
finished high school with certain academic achievements. I went
to Capital University in Bexley, a rich, snooty suburb of Columbus,
and graduated Magna Cum something-er-other in 1999 with an
English major. In August 1999 I moved to Columbus. I work at a minor metropolitan
newspaper as an editorial assistant. I like to write; read; watch the
Fox Sunday night animation block, 7th Heaven, and Jeopardy; do nutty, random things
like insert a photo of Greg Brady after a hair tonic mishap ;play
tennis, baseball, and volleyball; go to presidential museums;
go to drive-in movies; and chill wit'
my h-izz-omies, or more accurately, play board games with my nerd
friends. I am 6'2'', 220, with blue eyes, light brown hair, and
a large clavicle. My dreams are to learn piano; score a date and
subsequently raise a family; say this, á la
Jerry Seinfeld, to a telemarketer: "I'm kind of busy right now.
Why don't you give me your home number and I'll call you
back later...{I'm sorry, I can't do that}...Oh, I guess
you don't like people bothering you at home...{That's right.}...
Well, now you know how I feel [slam phone down]."; be in a
Millersport Community Theater production; get a big trampoline; go on more mission trips; be on Jeopardy!; see the world
(but not like in one of those NASA photos); play tennis on a grass court; teach; and
generally spread the good news.
Some of my most firmly
held beliefs are:
Religion needs to have a bigger role in public schools
The government needs to spend far less on the military and far more on foreign aid (partly because I don't think Jesus was kidding when he said "live by the sword, die by the sword" and I don't want to do either)
People in general and girls especially need to worry much less about their appearance
Pete Rose's exclusion from the Hall of Fame is one of the greatest injustices of all time (Shoeless Joe Jackson also)
Jesus called God "Father" and we need to think of Him that way, too...as a loving parent
Another great injustice is that tobacco companies put an admittedly addictive, deadly substance in their product and the only penalty they face is a few lawsuits
Artificial turf and the designated hitter suck
Ohio's jealousy of North Carolina for taking credit for
the Wright brothers is infantile
We don't please God by wearing clothes we arbitrarily
deem "nice"
Denominations undermine Christian unity
The world can't stand what it can't own (a Rich Mullins lyric)
Me, my father Ron, mother Karen, and brother Tom
A senior picture of me, mocking the "jock" photo (I don't really play lacrosse)
Every summer since 1987, at least some of my family has
holidayed (or to the Yankees, "aluminium") in Holden Beach, North Carolina with my maternal relatives. Here's a pic from 2002.
