Eleven short-term missionaries led by members of Covenant Church in Millersport,
Ohio, traveled to Guatemala in August, 1999, to build houses for families.
After flying into Guatemala City, they traveled by bus and then boat to the
village of Santiago, where they stayed during the mission. The houses
were built in the nearby village of San Antonio Chacaya. The four houses were built
for four families of Tzutuil Indians.
The group was led by David Metzler, a graduate student in Spanish at the University of
Kentucky who resides part-time in Guatemala. Other group members were
Kevin Metzler, Steve Bush, Janet Bush, Nicole Bush, Donna Thogmartin, Ryan
Thogmartin, Jeffrey Thogmartin, Scott Pairan, Andrea Nye, Jim Slocumb, and Becky Stamm.

One night, some guys came up to the church where we stayed in Santiago
and we started talking to them. We translated some words from English to Spanish to Tzutuil.
