Diabetes Action Network

It is likely that you or someone you know is diabetic. Perhaps you even know someone who is diabetic and losing their vision. Diabetes is one of the leading causes of blindness today, and the Diabetes Action Network (DAN) is an organization of and for diabetics and for those who have lost vision due to diabetes.

The Diabetes Action Network, a division of the National Federation of the Blind, is a support and information network for all diabetics, especially those who are blind or losing vision. Many of our members have experienced ramifications of diabetes such as blindness, amputation, nerve damage, heart problems, kidney disease, etc. Others have experienced no chronic complications, but want to utilize our services, learn more about diabetes, and be part of a caring support group. In addition to reaching out to fellow diabetics who may be finding it difficult to cope with problems that accompany diabetes, we provide support and information to interested persons.

"Voice of the Diabetic"

The Diabetes Action Network publishes a free quarterly publication available in print or on cassette tape, called the, "Voice of the Diabetic."

Voice of the Diabetic is read by those interested in all aspects of blindness and diabetes. It is an outreach publication emphasizing good diabetes control, diet, and independence. Each issue addresses current medical and scientific news in the diabetes field, health and diet news, and discusses options for living with many of the complications of this disease.

Blind diabetics must not only learn how to independently manage their disease, they need to learn a positive adjustment to blindness. Each issue of the Voice of the Diabetic includes information and encouragement for anyone who is diabetic, blind, or is losing vision.

If you would like a free subscription in either print or cassette format, please contact us by calling (330) 865-8471 or by e-mailing us. If you are not in the Greater Akron area, you can contact the Diabetes Action Network directly at:
