MAKE IT SO, AND IT WILL BE

Byron Norwood

A great artist once said "I found love on a two way street" and in the same breath came back with "and lost it on a lonely highway."

We would probably now say my street was Under Construction and the detour went into an alley.

Why do we as a people, so readily embrace our failures? Anticipating and sometimes coveting our pain and disappointment?

My beautiful strong determined, black, chocolate, caramel, two cream, three cream, hell even four cream sisters... There is happiness in this world for you, but you do not seem to even want to recognize from whence it comes.

You too often embrace the disrespect and defamation presented by one because you view it as strength and reject the sensitive caring and supportive words and deeds of another because to you he is weak. I say this because I have seen it, have experienced it, and still see it far too often.

Now I am the brother who opens your door. Not because you cannot, nor to receive some comment of amazement. I do it because I want to. Now doors are a small thing - yes - but that brother who will not do the small things sure as hell is not going to do the big things like marriage and commitment.

You blame your brothers because we are not there for you. I say if he is not there for you move the hell on, leave him alone. And not just 'til he calls again.

If you demand respect from us I promise you it will be given, not from all of us but from those who seek more than just a perceived conquest to be discussed during the commercial on Super Bowl Sunday.

I can say this because I want more and I believe that there are millions of brothers who want a beautiful, strong, healthy, creative, demanding, supportive black woman to be faithful to and live happily ever after with.

You say "THERE ARE NO GOOD BLACK MEN" I say the good ones are being ignored by you.

I believe that my time is soon to come and my woman will be happy and secure in knowing that I am her only man.
