GENERATION ONE

As far as I have been able to research, my oldest known Jeremay ancestors were Anthony and Jane (Tebeau¹) Jeremie.² Anthony was born in 1784 in Canada.³ He crossed Lake Erie in a canoe from Long Point, Ontario, Canada, and settled in the La Carpe area of Ottawa County, Ohio. On 22 October 1822 in Sandusky County, Ohio, he married Jane Tebeau. She was born in 1796 in Michigan.4 Jane was a Native American also known as Little Flower, who reportedly served as an interpreter for General William Henry Harrison in the War of 1812.5 Anthony and Jane were among the first residents of the La Carpe Creek area. They lived on an area of the marshes called Turnip Island, named after Anthony's prize crop. In 1829-1830, Anthony purchased a tract of 80 acres from the United States government in section 27, township 7. In 1835, he purchased another 40 acres in the same area, which was subsequently sold in 1848 to a Peter Ebert. Anthony and Jane had ten children:
1. Anthony Jeremy, II, c.1822-1863
2. Jane Jeremy-Dagen-Savellie, c.1824-? (after 1860)
3. Henry Jeremy, __ September 1825-19 October 1916
4. Peter Jeremy, c.1826-1860
5. Alexander Jeremy, c.1827-06 April 1862
6. Joseph Jeremy, 04 June 1828-20 October 1865
7. Mary Jeremy-Grodi, c.1834-11 September 1911
8. Sara Jeremy, c.1836-?
9. Jackson Jeremay, __ April 1839-1917
10.Isaac Jeremy, __ December 1840-08 May 1929
Jane died 11 December 1855.6 She was buried in LaCarpe Cemetery.7 Anthony died 13 February 1859.8 He also was buried in LaCarpe Cemetery.9
