Yale historian Dr. John Boswell's exhaustive research
on same sex
marriages by the church was written in his latest
book (Same-Sex
Unions in Premodern Europe) showing church documents
of pairs of
men, and pairs of women, that had received church
ceremonies
of union until about the 14th and 19th century.
(Orthodox priests
were still performing such public marital rites
in mountain villages
of Albania, Montenegro and Bosnia as late as the
19th century.
Boswell is the chairman of Yale's history department,
holder of
the Griswold Chair in History at Yale.)
Trying to research this area of knowledge
of same sex marriage
was significantly hampered by the surviving relatives,
and cover up
by those wishing to maintain their acceptance
of noted theologians.
Many lonely researchers who dug into the past
found their research
would be burned by surviving relatives, and the
facts covered up
by myth, to give a sense of continuity being maintain
from the very
beginning, that there was a sin of homosexuality
where none existed.
Unless some of their notes and unpublished writings
are found, then
most of their vast and valuable store of knowledge
died with them,
and the myth lived on.
Dr. John Boswell in making the book
"Same-Sex Unions in Premodern
Europe," based his study on more than 60 surviving
manuscripts from
the 8th to the 16th century in a twelve year search
of Catholic and
Orthodox church archives. These ceremony of same-sex
union were
identical to heterosexual unions.
A Kiev art museum contains an icon
from St. Catherine's monastery
on Mt. Sinai. It shows two robed Christian saints.
Between them is a
traditional Roman pronubus (best man) who is Christ
himself as the
pronubus (best man), and the "husband and wife"
are in fact two men.
A same sex "marriage" that is sanctified by Christ.
The men were
St. Serge and St. Bacchus, two Roman soldiers
who became Christian
martyrs. In the definitive 10th century Greek
account of their lives,
St. Serge is openly described as the "sweet companion
and lover" of
St. Bacchus. They were a homosexual couple. Their
orientation and
relationship was openly accepted by early Christian
writers.
Furthermore, the icon has Christ himself
as their pronubus, their
best man overseeing their "marriage". Contrary
to myth, Christianity's
concept of marriage has not been set in stone
since the days of
Christ, but has evolved as a concept and as a
ritual, this product
of evolution has become set in stone in the minds
of most Christians,
where history never placed it. In fact they had
the "Office of Same
Sex Union" (10th and 11th century Greek) and the
"Order for Uniting
Two Men" (11th and 12th century). The very same
as a heterosexual
marriage where a community gathered in a church,
a blessing of the
couple before the altar, their right hands joined
as at heterosexual
marriages, the participation of a priest, the
taking of the Eucharist,
a wedding banquet afterwards. All of which are
shown in contemporary
drawings of the same sex union of Byzantine Emperor
Basil I (867-886)
and his companion John. Such homosexual unions
also took place in
Ireland in the late 12th or early 13th century,
as the chronicler
Gerald of Wales (Geraldus Cambrensis) has recorded.
There are lists
in detail of same sex union ceremonies found in
ancient church
liturgical documents.
Records were found of same sex unions
in such diverse archives
as those in the Vatican, in St. Petersburg, in
Paris, Istanbul,
and in Sinai, covering a period from the 8th to
19th centuries.
Nor was this the first such discovery. The Dominican
Jacques
Goar (1601-1653) includes such ceremonies in a
printed collection
of Greek prayer books, but of course these are
hidden away to
maintain the continuity of the myth of sin of
homosexuality in
the bible. The conspiracy has been covered up
with enough time
and voracity to wipe out the truth in the minds
of the masses. To
the point most if not all will say marriage has
always been between
a man and a woman. God made Adam and Eve, not
Adam and Steve.
This cover up has even found its way
into the bible itself, where
words are added to cover up same sex marriages.
In the passage:
1 Sam 18:21 "And Saul said, I will give him her,
that she may be a
snare to him, and that the hand of the Philistines
may be against
him. Wherefore Saul said to David, Thou shalt
this day be my son
in law in [the one of] the twain." The words [the
one of] was added
to cover up the same sex, and polyandrous marriage
of David to
Michal and Jonathan. They had a same sex marriage,
and Michal was
the binding property for inheritance. Women and
children were
property, a marriage was a contract to exchange
the property from
the father to the husband. (The
last two words of the verse in
hebrew are chathan {khaw-than'} and sh@nayim {shen-ah'-yim}
which make up "be my son in law (chathan) in [the
one of] the twain
(sh@nayim)". Chathan means marriages, son in law,
and sh@nayim
means both of them, twice. David was Saul's son-in-law
twice,
Saul only had two daughters Merab and Michal, and
Merab married
Adriel, leaving only his sons left to marry to
make it twice. David
loved Jonathan and married him along with his
sister Michal.)
The marriage was made binding by the
consummation, in the case
of two men they became each other's property,
with the husband of
the marriage consummating the marriage. In the
case of David's
marriage to Jonathan, David would consummate the
marriage to
Jonathan, they both shared ownership, but Jonathan
would be the
subordinate along side Michal his wife. The marriage
between David
and Jonathan was for love, the marriage of David
to Michal was for
property. 1 Samuel 20:17 "And Jonathan caused
David to swear again,
because he loved him: for he loved him as he loved
his own soul."
2 Samuel 1:26 "I am distressed for thee, my brother
Jonathan: very
pleasant hast thou been unto me: thy love to me
was wonderful,
passing the love of women." The myth that homosexual
activity is
gravely sinful, is a cultural accretion that does
not have
its roots in authentic Christian belief.
It can be shown that in every instance
of the so called sin
of homosexuality, is in fact in context the giving
of the seed to
other gods, which is the sin of idolatry not homosexuality.
That
in fact the verses normally assigned to the sin
of homosexuality
did not have homosexual involvement at all, but
in fact were as
Chemarim priests doing their religious duties,
and worshipers of
Baal-Molech, Venus and Bacchus rites giving the
seed to these
gods. Those giving the seed and those receiving
the seed were no
more homosexual, than are those drinking the blood
and eating the
flesh of Christ cannibals, they were doing a religious
duty, not
an act of cannibalism or homosexuality in each
case. The fact
that they were using their bodies which were supposed
to be the
property of God and his temple, against God, to
worship other
gods was an abomination, an idolatrous mortal
sin. In a theocracy
this was no less of a crime than treason, which
was charged the
penalty of death. Were this to go on God could
be lost in the
minds of those who worshiped the other gods by
using their bodies.
In the worship of fertility gods such as
Baal-Molech and Venus,
one would have sex, to entice them to have sex
to bestow fertility
upon the land, animals and people. Since
the priests of
Baal-Molech, the Chemarim priests were males,
the seed was given
to Baal-Molech in sodomy with Chemarim priests
and male temple
prostitutes, often dressed like a woman to make
things easier,
later with females as well. The meaning of the
words assigned to
the sin of homosexuality themselves have in fact
been changed
and their original meaning covered up as well
in myth. A Sodomite
(qadesh) means a male temple prostitute or Chemerim
priest,
and not a homosexual. (A Chemerim priest are the
high holy ones
or consecrated ones mentioned in Zeph 1:4, 2 Kings
23:5,7,10,
Hos 10:5). Layer upon layer of cultural accretion
has been
placed upon homosexuals to form the myth of sin
of homosexuality.
More and more add on material with the subtraction
of facts
and context has been placed upon homosexuals until
the modern
day Christian takes for granted that homosexuality
is a sin.
With a little logic one can see that
the myth of sin of
homosexuality cannot be sustained. If one assumes
God makes all
people, then there are those born with both sexes
(hermaphrodites),
and they had to be made by God with both sexes.
Jesus called
them "eunuchs which were so born from their mother's
womb", the
modern day term would be intersexuals. If you
are born with
both sexes, then anyone you would have as a mate
they would
have the same sex, anyone they would be attracted
to would be
a same sex attraction. By definition therefore
hermaphrodites
are homosexual, all persons they would have as
a mate they would
have the same sexual organ as them, all they would
be attracted
to they would have the same sexual organ as them,
all that they
would have sex with, they would have the same
sexual organ as
them, they cannot escape the definition of homosexual.
If God
makes all, God makes homosexuals in the form of
hermaphrodites.
If there is a sin of homosexuality, it would apply
to those
creations God made, because hermaphrodites do
not choose to be
homosexual they are born by definition homosexual.
The Christians will also point out
that if two same sexed
people have sex it is fornication. Beside the
fact that it is
they that in modern times who will not allow same
sexed persons
to get married, so that they will not have the
sin of fornication
in the modern usage of the word fornication, the
word fornication
itself, as the word sodomite, has been covered
up in cultural
accretion and changed to suit this myth of homosexuality.
The
original word for fornication which was, zanah
{zaw-naw'} means
to be a harlot, play the harlot, act as a harlot,
to be a cult
prostitute, again when the accretion is chipped
away the context
points back the the original context of being
a prostitute in the
worship of other gods. This can be clearly pointed
out in the usage
of the word fornication by Jesus himself: Matthew
5:32 "But I say
unto you, That whosoever shall put away his "wife",
saving for the
cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery:
and whosoever
shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery."
Now if
fornication was having sex outside of marriage,
instead of the
idolatrous act of having sex for the purpose of
worshiping other
gods, then Jesus would not be talking about putting
away a "wife"
for the cause of fornication. If it were a "wife"
having sex in
the modern sense of the words, it would be adultery,
not
fornication, yet both words are used in the same
context, clearly
a "wife" can commit fornication and the modern
usage of the word
is mistranslated.
When the facts are shown, time and
again the theory of sin
of homosexuality becomes a house of card ever
falling before the
wind of facts. Truth is a crucible in which you
place all facts
and burn away all other accretion until all that
remains is the
truth. When you put the bible through this crucible,
one finds
no sin of homosexuality.
