Defining Gothic Culture

There is no true unifying stereotype or dress code as it were. Not all Goths are depressed, nor do they all wear black, listen to the same music, or employ the same modes of self expression.

One of a Goth's defining characteristics is the need to take the underlying darkness that is in us all and bring it into the light in such a way as we can recognize it as what it is-an integral part of all of us.

This is a subculture that has appeared, flourished, then died, only to rise again in many eras and in many societies. Its adherents have always been the young intelligents, frustrated, and bored by the parent culture.

Nearly every manifestation of this particular type of counter-culture was greeted with suspicion, hostility, and sometimes active aggression on the part of its parent culture. Only rarely was this brand of subculture welcomed and allowed to flourish, as it was during the Italian Renaisannce.

This is a little introduction into the Gothic Culture to help for a better understanding of this site.

If I must restate this, I will: Goth is not something you can become...its not really something you "are", meaning a state of being. You are human....the gothic culture is only your passion, as this person's passion is surely being close minded....diversification is the key for understanding, and if you are so full of yourself to believe to be diverse, yet send me love notes such as this, then this world is doomed due to people like you.
