My Friend Jimmy Piper

By Brooke Henderson

Hi, my name is Brooke Henderson. I was friends with Jimmy Piper from kindergarten to 4th grade. Some people were not great friends with Jimmy but nobody hated him. It was hard to dislike Jimmy. He was always happy. Jimmy was really funny and always found a way to make me laugh. Some people did not know Jimmy like I did. Some thought he was just trying to impress people with his great jokes. I knew he was just being himself. That was one of the reasons I liked Jimmy. He was always himself and did not care what people thought of him or what he looked like.

I did not go to Jimmy's house or to parties with him but I knew him well enough to cry when he died. I was devastated when I heard the news. Whenever I think about him I am sad. To cheer me up I look at his picture that hangs in my locker and think of the funny things that he did.

Jimmy used to play with his salami sandwich. He would bite the salami and make packmen out of them. He would make faces out of other foods. At lunch I normally sat near him. One time Jimmy made himself laugh so hard that milk came out of his nose. One day I was playing soccer at recess and I was hurt. When I was lying on the ground in pain Jimmy was right by my side making sure I was all right. Later that recess period I was hurting again. The wind was blowing hard and Jimmy's clothes flared out. He claimed he was a scarecrow. This made me laugh so hard that I forgot about the pain.

I was sad sometimes during school and Jimmy would not let me leave until he found out what was wrong. He would fix the problem and go on to cheer someone else. I do not think I will ever meet someone as close to perfect as he was. Every time one of my friends sees his picture in my locker for the first time they ask me who that is. I tell them that is a picture of Jimmy Piper and then I tell them the story I just told you.
