1. Flirting -- It happens in the chat box, acros and private messgaes. Only the truly suave should attempt to flirt with more than 1 person at a time. It can be dangerous to your health as well as the other people's state of mind.
2. Voting -- Don't forget to vote you never know when the lamest acro might get a vote or two. Best strategy, as soon as you see the answers click on anything then start reading and changing your vote as you find something better. This way you're guaranteed to have a vote registered.
3. In some circles it is considered rude to postulate over who wrote what acro. If you're new to a room don't do it unless you see other people doing it. Each room has it's own culture and rules of decorum, sometimes it helps to sit back and absorb before jumping fully into the conversations and game.
4. Also some people consider it rude to say which acro may or may not have gotten your vote before the acrobot shows the results. And in some cases will cause people to change their votes so that one acro doesn't get too many votes. And as a corallary it's REALLY wrong to say something got your vote in hopes of encouraging people to avoid it.
5. In a lot of cases players can be bought! People like to see their names in lights and as long as it's not too insulting you will usually get at least that player's vote. Unless of course several people follow the same tactic causing the target player to have to pick and choose.
6. /ignore can be your friend. The threat of /ignore often works even better. If someone is really being a pain and /ignore doesn't seem to be helping... have everyone use /log to create a log of the chat and then send it in to the Acro gods... they don't like people giving their game a bad reputation.
7. If you're going to use a shorthand version of someone's name in chatbox look to see what other people are using first.
8. Bitching about commercials -- Everyone hates them, but hey... they keep the game free. So just deal with it and get on with your life.
9. Insulting people because you're not getting votes usually marks you as someone to be ignored. Once may be funny... twice is downright rude.
10. On occasion it is acceptable to use slang or truncated words to make an acro work. Words like 'cause and y'all and gotta can be used, but be prepared for less than stellar scores.
11. Remember it's just a game. Say Hi, Bye, and stop to smell the roses.
12. Keeping ICQ open during a game can be a good and a bad thing. Good because you can keep tabs on your favorite players. Bad because you will get flooded with messages at the most inopportune moments.
13. DO NOT say vote for #4 or whatever. The numbers are different on everyone's screen so if you find someone gullible enough to vote for the number you suggest your vote most likely will be going to someone other than you.
14. Sitting in a full room, not playing and just taking up space is just wrong. In most rooms there are regulars who like to get in and you're holding the spot from them. So stop being a twink and get out of there.
15. It's a global internet, but Acrophobia is usually an American Centric game. Don't complain too much or too loudly that categories like Politicts and Current Events are usually US references.
16. There are just some topics which make no sense. I mean what are you supposed to do with "Click Here". And why is there just a "Kentucky" category? What about the rest of the US?
17. Sticking with catgories.... Stating your preference once is okay. Twice is acceptable... 5+ times is deffinately too much.
18. Making lists of words to go with a category isn't against any rules, and for some people can work well. But more often than not you spend more time trying to find the words then if you make something up. Now if you can memorize your lists then you can get ahead of the game.
19. Don't wait for the Acro to appear before starting to compose. Start in your mind as each letter appears you'll be surprised by the results.
20. Saying how fast you entered your acro just to brag can be rude... unless of course it's really really fast. Like a seven letter acro in 4 seconds. Otherwise I would normally only check times if it seems that 4 people entered at the same time and you might have gotten speed but aren't thrilled with your acro. Of course then you have to trust that your fellow players tell you their times honestly.
