Notes:
Tryon County, North Carolina was later changed to Lincoln Co. and Rutherford
Counties. A partion of Rutherford County was later made into a new county and
called Buncombe County.
Abraham served during the Revolutionary War as a Corporal under Capt.Cobron in
the Anson Milita during 1750. He later became Captain of his own Company in
1770. He was commisioned to establish the Tryon county line and to build a
courthouse. He held positions to levy taxes, became Justice of the Peace, and
served on the Public Safety Committee. He received land grants in Buncombe Co.
1792, this 640 acres later became Flat Rock and he gave the land for Mudd Creek
Baptist Church and cemetery.
1805 Jan 19: Land Grant # 1132-Buncombe Co., North Carolina: Abraham Kuykendall
Senior; Deed to Jacob Kuykendall. They wer both from Buncombe County. The
witness was James Kuykendall.
Deeds in Buncombe Co., North Carolina- Book B-Pg. 13: Deed to Abraham, James,
and Simon from Edmund McGuffie.
1805 Jan. 18: Book 10,Pg.325: Abraham Kuykendall and wife Bersheba deed land on

1814 Oct. 8: Deed Book H, Pg.354-Buncombe Co., North Carolina: Abraham deceased
legatees James, John, Simon, all of Franklin County, Tennessee.
In 1820 census there were three Abraham Kuykendall families in Franklin county,
Tennessee. Our ancester John William Kuykendall's brother was probably one of
them. Abraham Kuykendall, Jr. was another.
