WFL 2K4 Rules and Scoring
Welcome to another year of fantasy football!
We’ll rack ‘em up again this year and see who needs
to check the want ads because their game needs help!
One new scoring rule for 2K4, and a review of recent changes!
For those of you just tuning in, let’s go
over the basics. (Old timers will want to read this, too. Just to refresh the
memory.)
Schedule
Regular
Season: Weeks 1-13
Playoffs:
Weeks 14-15
Championship:
Week 16
Pro
Bowl: Week 17
Draft
In order to preserve some continuity from
year to year, the braintrust of the WFL has decided
to let returning players keep one (1) player from last year’s team, if they
choose to. The draft order will then be determined on how you finished the
previous year.
For example, if everyone returned from the
2K1 league and kept a player, the draft order would be:
1. Dennis Y
2. Steve B
3. Jim W
4. Tim W
5. Jim R
6. Jon H
7. Mike C
8. Chris D
9. Mike D
10. John O
11. Steve W
12. Dave D
However, not everyone will return, and we
will get new players. The new players will not have anyone to keep, so they
will go to the top of the draft order. Below is an example of how this would
work if everyone returning kept a player and 3 people did not
return. There will be three new players in this example:
1. (New Player) * (#3 in first round, 4th in
second round)
2. (New Player) * (#2 in first round, 5th in
2nd round)
3. (New Player) * (#1 in first round, 6th in
2nd round)
4. Steve B
5. Jim W
6. Tim W
7. Jim R
8. Chris D
9. Mike D
10. John O
11. Steve W
12. Dave D (in second round, 15th overall
pick)
* - 3 new players would draw to determine
order of 1st three picks of available players. In the second round,
the person with the #1 pick will pick 6th overall.
Getting bored yet? One
final example. Let’s say that I decide not to keep any players from last
year. I would then be like a “new” player, and enter the drawing for the top
picks:
1. (New Player) * (4th pick in 1st
round, 5th pick in second round)
2. (New Player) * (3rd pick in 1st
round, 6th pick in second round)
3. (New Player) * (2nd pick in 1st
round, 7th pick in second round)
4. Steve W * (1st pick in 1st
round, 8th pick in second round)
5. Steve B
6. Jim W
7. Tim W
8. Jim R
9. Chris D
10. Mike D
11. John O
12. Dave D (In second round, 16th overall
pick)
* 3
new players, plus Steve W, would draw to
determine order of 1st four picks of available players. In the
second round, the person with the #1 pick will pick 8th overall.
The idea here is that those keeping players
will not participate in the first round, per say. In reality, Dave D will have
the first pick in the first round, and he gets the player he keeps. He will not
pick again until the end of the 2nd round.
Confused? I will explain it. Let me know.
You will draft 3 QBs,
4 RBs, 4 WRs, 2 TEs, 2 Ks, 2 Defense/ Special Teams. We will have the draft
on a day to be determined. As always, you can drop and add players through free
agency and trades, discussed below.
Free Agency and Trades
Every week you can drop and add players! All
players that are not on a WFL team are eligible during these weeks. Like last
year, we will use Free Agent Waiver Wire, where teams that have the worst
record get first consideration for free agents. For example, if Steve Bradford
is 3-5, and Dave Dutton is 6-2, and they both want to pick up Barry Sanders,
Barry Sanders will go to Steve because he has the worst record. (By the way,
Barry Sanders isn’t going to help him much, since he’s retired. But I digress.)
If 2 or more teams have the same record, and want the same player, the
traditional coin toss or name-from-the-hat method will be used (the coin toss
method will be used for the Preseason free agency period). The waiver wire will
be posted each week in the Commissioner’s Comments section of the Stats sheet.
NFL players that are released from a team
are not eligible for pick-up until the next week. For instance, after Week 3, if Steve picked-up
Barry Sanders and released Tony Dorsett in order to make room, Tony Dorsett
would not be available for anyone to pick-up until after Week 4. This allows
everyone to have a shot at this player.
All free agent requests must be submitted to
me by 6:00pm the Thursday before the week’s first game. If there is a
Thursday game, requests must be submitted by 6:00pm the Wednesday before the
week’s first game. I will email my
choices for free agents to a separate account (so they will be date stamped). The
last free agent period will be the Wednesday prior to Week 11 games.
Trades between players can be conducted at anytime throughout the season, prior
to Week 11. All trades have a minimum 3-week
duration! Now you have to think if you really want to send your QB to
your friend who is down on his luck. The trading deadline is kickoff of the
first game of Week 11 (a Sunday game). Just notify me of who is being traded.
Ø
Ø All transactions (free agent and otherwise) are
listed on the Weekly Stat sheet.
As you can see, no roster changes of any
kind can be made after Week 11 games kickoff. That means whoever is on your
roster by kickoff of Week 11 is yours to keep for the rest of your natural
lives! Well, at least until the end of the season.

Starting Lineups
Each week, you will start 1 QB, 1 TE, 1 K,
and 1 defense. The RB and WR positions can vary in the number of starters, as
long as they equal 4 total starters. This means you can start:
·
·
4 RBs, no WRs
·
·
3 RBs, 1 WR
·
·
2 RBs, 2 WRs
·
·
1 RB, 3 WRs
·
·
no RB, 4 WRs
This system reflects the current NFL
offenses, which vary in the formations used (1 RB, 3 WRs
being very popular). It allows a player that has many injuries in one position
to still be able to field a team. Don’t ever say the WFL doesn’t care about its
people!
All other positions except RB & WR
will start only 1 player each week!
The
starting lineup must be received by the commissioner (me) BEFORE THE KICKOFF OF
THE GAME THE PLAYER(S) ARE IN. If you want to start a player that’s in a
Thursday or Saturday game, you must let me know by kickoff of that game. I
prefer that you do not wait until the last minute to submit your lineup,
because I would like to post the starting lineups for each week on the website.
If you do not submit a starting lineup, you will automatically start the
players from the previous week. I usually try to contact everyone for their
starting lineups (if I haven’t received them) on Fridays. However, I may
forget. Lineups can be submitted by phone or email.
Tie-Breakers
Ties in a regular season game are allowed. When
determining tie-breakers for division and playoff position, total points are
the first tie-breaker. In the off chance that those are also tied, division
record is used. Should that be tied, total points for
starters and non-starters is used. If that’s tied, the two owners are
called “Bizarre Freaks” over and over and the story is sent to Mr. Ripley for
publication in his next book.
The tie-breaker for a playoff game is the total points for
starters and non-starters.
Scoring
The scoring system for the WFL is as
follows:
All positions
QB, RB, WR, TE
Kickers
Defense/ Special Teams
Scoring will be done using software and stat
package from StatsWorld.com. If you feel that your score for the week is wrong,
let me know. Even though computers do it, there may still be an error. I
encourage everyone to keep track of their scores.
Final Thoughts
A lot of information will be conveyed
through the WFL website (www.woodfootball.cc).
I recommend checking it at least once a week. Weekly scores will be posted on
Tuesdays, and other features such as a weekly newsletter are posted throughout
the week. If you don’t have Internet access, too bad.
Make friends with someone who does.
If there are any problems throughout the
season, I like to encourage players to contact me. I can be reached by email
and phone. Numbers (if you don’t have them) will be provided at the draft.
Good Luck to everyone (except Jim) and
thanks for playing!
